Witness Statement: often look in the night sky for satelites and planets, enjoying the views of Venus last month in the early evening. But last night I can't explain what I saw. I had just picked my daughter up from the cinema at parrswood and was driving back to a party at Handforth. On the section of road between the Griffin pub and the Wagon and Horses we spotted a bright orange light in the sky in front and slightly to the right(SW). At first I thought it was Venus but it was pulsing orange to red. I then realised there was cloud cover and no stars. Being close to Manchester Airport I thought it might be a plane or helicopter but as I got closer no flashing lights appeared. I stopped the car at this point so I didn't drive off the road and wound down the window.
We watched as it came closer and flew over the top of us. From underneath we could see a red circle with an orange centre. We watched the object fly further north in a straight line until it faded and disappeared. This all took about 2 minutes.

Many thanks for your detailed sighting report.
We have received several sighting reports in the last few months close to Manchester Airport.These have been around the Wythenshawe and Gatley area.

To eliminate the possibility of Chinese Lanterns I would also be grateful if you take a look at the video on

and let us know if this could explain your sighting.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a chinese lantern looking at the video. The object we saw was very bright, brighter than Venus earlier in the month which is what caught my eye in the first place. Also the object seemed to be powered and travelling in a straight line.
