Eastbourne, East Sussex-31st May 2009
Location of Sighting: Eastbourne, East Sussex
Date of Sighting: 31st May 2009
Time: 10-11 PM
Witness Name: Jon
Witness Statement: I was having a ciggie out of the bathroom window and saw a large 'fireball' (glowing orange) moving horizontally and quite low in the sky. This thing appeared to be both bigger than a 747, and faster than any plane or helicopter. I watched it, shouted and ran to get my partner, was literally gone 3-4 seconds, and when I returned it had just vanished ! Impossible ! I know what I saw, and it wasn't anything man made (that I know of !). Just a big ball of 'fire' flying at a constant speed and height. It's stayed in my mind all day as it was so bizarre. This definately wasn't a meteor so what was it ?Source:Direct request on UK-UFO

I’ve just logged on this morning to find your UK UFO sighting site, having added UFO’s seen over Eastbourne into Google. After what I experienced yesterday evening 06/06/09 at approx 22.10 I scoured the net to find a few other similar sites including an MOD email address, all of which I reported to. Jon’s email is very interesting and I’ll get to that later. What I saw, walking up Meads Road, returning home from walking my Dog, was five UFO’s. I stood still in disbelief but there they all were at a distance apart, some moved up and down and some sideways. They moved slowly and silently but could clearly be seen by their very bright lights and what appeared to be wings curled under. I couldn’t undertsand why they were hanging around until I saw the sixth one to my left join them. Once it had done this, they all went off together in the direction directly above Beachy Road. I ran the rest of the way home, to get my husband to drive out in the same direction with his camera on board, in the hope they could still be seen. When we left our home to go to the car, to our left in the sky was a large glowing orange ball, not moving, just still. If I think about it now, what I had seen earlier, had come from the exact same direction as this thing. I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time, though I did point it out to my husband who also saw it. I was in too much of a hurry and preocupied with heading out to where these six craft had flown to. When we returned not having seen anything more, that orange ball was no longer there. I am truly shocked by what I saw, and only wish to God someone else had seen it too. Only being the day after I’m so hoping there will be a similar report, and that I won’t have been the only one.

Rhona i was in eastbourne at that same time and i saw them!! i dont know exactly where i was, i think it was called beachy cliff or something, i dont really know the area.. but i was with a friend and we saw and watched the lights for about half an hour.. Im dead sure we are talking about the same thing, from what i could see it was like a black triangle with an orange glow in the centre, they made no noise at all and flew all over the place. Like you i have also come on the internet looking for reportings

Rhona and Sam I also saw craft in the sky at about 10.40 pm on Saturday night (06/06/09) which I could not explain. They were travelling up Baslow Road, Meads. As I got out of my car I saw two craft which seemed to me to have three orange glows under each. They were moving silently in the direction of the Downs. I then saw two more craft behind them.

On Saturday 6th june i had just returned to my home in Hastings from Eastbourne, i was in my back garden at 21.20, when i loked up in the sky i saw a single orange ball of light orange to yellow in colour which seemed to come north and head out towards the sea, i live approx a mile from the coast and 5the light seemed to cruise very hi up outwards, having lived in london near heathrow i am used to aeroplane sounds, even in east sussex no matter how far away aircraft are flying you can allways here some noise, this object that i saw made no noise at all, i called my son outside to make sure that i was not seeing things and he was amazed as we watched the object go out to see, i observed the object for approx.1 min-1.5mins.

Its all sooo true people…these things exsist! Its absolute madness. I’ve seen them myself, very strange experience on more than one occassion. Why the goverment dont just let us know the truth!! The sightings are getting more and more frequent..maybe they annoyed with what we doing to our planet? As far as im concerned, we need to make big changes…and quick! Or face some sort of doom or whatever..maybe a bit far fetched but u never know. We need to come out in force people!!!

I saw a massive triangular shaped ufo with dim lights around the underside perimeter over Eastbourne (Hampden Park) back one night in April (2009) around say 9pm. It was much bigger than any plane I have seen which flew at low altitude and made no noise whatsoever. It just diappeared into the distance leaving me wondering what it might be.

Excellent to hear more comments and experiences, and in a way extremely comforting to feel some affirmation of what we have all seen. So we ain’t going nuts then lol ! These ‘orange balls’ seem to be appearing everywhere, yet the media doesn’t seem to be very forthcoming ? I emailed the Eastbourne Herald the same night to see if any more reports had been noticed, but they never replied.
Rhona your report sounds astonishing. I wish I had seen what you had, and not just the orange fireball. I live in the centre of town, not too far from Meads Road – and what I saw was also heading in the Beachy Head direction from the sea. The annoying thing is, people don’t understand the impact this has on you until you witness it yourself. You truly have to see it to believe it – but we CAN’T all be imagining the same thing.

Withdean, Brighton. Last Friday night (3rd July 2009) – between 11pm – 12pm can’t say exactly. (which is ridiculous in view of what happened). I was having a cigarette in the garden and saw 4 bright orange orbs appear low in the sky about 5 miles away coming in from the coast, heading inland, after about a mile they stopped momentarily and then went up and disappeared into the athmosphere. I didn’t call to my boyfriend as I thought he would have me locked up. Then another group of objects appeared in the same way, took the same path and disappeared out of sight. At that point I got the other half into the garden and right on cue another two appeared from the same direction and did exactly the same. He went indoors bewildered (I had woken him up from in front of the telly) only to miss a further visit from three more. I have search the internet to see if anyone else witnessed this last Friday night but perhaps they too, like me, didn’t like to seem slightly potty. Thank god the other half did actually witness the phenomenon.

Oh my, i too have just tonight witnessed these orange balls of fire, flying totally silently across the sky on Eastbourne seafront. What the hell are they?, it has freaked me out, too weird and from searching the internet, this seems to have happened many times before, what;s going on?

Thought I would take a look to see if anything else had been posted since my original message. I am SO pleased that Sam, Beth and Jon had added their experiences too! It’s lovely to know that I wasn’t the only one to have seen this incredible sighting in the sky that night. I never had a response from my report to the MOD, so I’m not surprised to hear that The Herald didn’t respond either.

I am very intrigued by the comments left here. I too saw balls of light in the Beachy Head area on Sunday 11th October at 18.57. It had just got dark and was a beautiful clear, cloudless night sky. I was driving back from Birling Gap to East Dean and noticed 2 lights in the sky so I stopped the car. They were small whitish orange lights in the direction of Beachy Head. I first assumed they were helicopters but their motion was unlike anything I had ever seen. They were bobbing around left to right and up and down but not synchronised with each other. I turned off the engine but there was no noise of any description. I watched them for a few minutes and took some pictures with my phone but it is pretty low res so they are not much more than a few pixels big. I drove to try and get closer but lost sight of them. I would love to know what they were.

OMG! I’ve just seen something in the sky that was unreal. Saturday 10.45 13th February 2009. Exactly as the other reports. 3 orange/red balls floating slowly across the sky at exactly the same distance apart. I called for my daughter, but by the time she got downstairs and outside they had gone. I’m amazed I’ve never seen anything like it in my life…I’m still shaking!

Hey all I witnessed on several occasions orange lights around Eastbourne, the most recent was new years eve… although it was very cloudy it was bright and zig zagged in a motion not possible for a man made aircraft… only explanation would be a sky lantern catching an air current but doubtful as it was shedding a lot of what looked like debris! before it disappeared. Owning a telescope and being an enthusiast of astronomy and astrophotography I have had several friends and friends of friends questioning me on their sightings. It seems these sightings are quite common over the past year and are becoming more frequent.

My wife, my best mate and I have all just seen 6 glowing orange lights in the sky moving NW over Eastbourne. These appear to have come from the Hastings direction.
They were all equally spaced apart and moving at the same speed apparently. They were very bright orange and appeared to be ‘glowing’
I’m guessing they were some kind of ‘chinese lanterns’ but it was quite weird.
I last saw this about 5mths ago. Again they were bright orange and moving slowly and smoothly NW across the sky.

we have just seen what every one has described, bright orange glowing lights. 3.7.2010 arround 10-11 o’clock above pevensey bay. there was one then we saw two sets of two bright orange lights.

I don’t normally rush to the blogs and claim I’ve seen a UFO everytime I see a moving light in the sky, and the last time I saw something which questioned logic reasoning was over 30 years ago in South West Africa, now named Namibia, north of South Africa.
I found this website tonight after searching Google for ufo’s over Sussex and decided to share what I saw tonight, Saturday 3 July 2010 at some time after 10.00pm. Just in case someone else also saw this.
I left my local in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, at just after 10.00 pm, yes, I know, I had a couple of beers. But I was driving home and would even have been fit to fly a plane if I had to. I’m a pilot.
As I entered the car park, I immediately noticed a bright orange light moving east, not directly above me, but at an arc of roughly 80 degrees. It had the same intensity of an aircraft’s landing light, and at first I thought nothing off it, except this light was yellowy orange in colour although it flew along the same path as aircraft normally flew when positioning for a western Gatwick approach. Its speed across the sky appeared to match that of a normal airliner at around 5,000 feet.
However, the following observations made me stop and really look at it: This object was clearly moving away from me, so the light was not a landing light. Planes don’t have landing lights pointing backwards. Also, I could not see any strobes (pulsating lights). Another puzzling fact was that the light, although very bright, was flickering like a star. Airliners flying a low level landing pattern don’t have flickering lights (like a candle in the wind), especially when the weather is clear. It was not constant like a typical landing or tail navigation light. Stars appear to flicker as a result of the atmhosphere between us and them, but this was no star. It was far too bright. It also did not leave a tail, like an exhaust trail. And there was no sound.
I noticed that this object did not turn left to position itself for an approach into Gatwick – it just kept on going in a straight line. Then the light dimmed, only to re-appear a little later, and then dimmed again, for three or four times. By now it was quite a distant away and not as bright anymore, and also quite low on the horizon, but still flickering. I had to step into the street in order to continue watching it without houses obstructing my view.
The weather was cavok, high pressure was in place, but there were a few tiny wisps of cloud and I estimated them to be at around 10 to 15 thousand feet. This object was clearly flying well above that level. And that was the scary bit. If this thing was indeed above those wisps of cloud, perhaps at 20,000 feet or more, it would have had to, by comparison to an airliner flying at 5,000 or 6,000 feet for a Gatwick approach, been flying at around a thousand miles an hour to cover the same arc of space in the sky in the time it did.
Wow…! This viewing was over in about 20 seconds. Did anybody else see this?

HI Ed, what you saw was a a Satellite with rotating solar panels where the light looks like it pulses. I have seen this one several times now.
I have seen a strange object over Uckfield/crowborough/heathfield twice now and urge people to look up at the skys between 7.45 and 8.15 pm on Wednesday’s (not sure if this is significant) Description: Metallic, flickers in the Suns rays. Can remain motionless. Very high Altitude moves from East to West. Not a plane,Balloon satellite Chinese lantern or bird. I google it (which it why I’m here) and see that a chinese airport closed eariler because of something similar. You will need a telescope to view in detail

I work in crowborough in sussex but live in hailsham just outside eastbourne one evening travelling back from work at 10pm can’t remember the date i saw 3 orange orbs travelling in a smooth trajectory in a south easterly direction to the west of rotherfield i stoppped to film them but the camera on my phone did not capture them. 20 minutes later travelling through hailsham i saw them 3 more times each timwould move in random direction brightening then fading completley i filmed them each time but none of them came out. When i got home i saw them for a fifth time this time my wife saw them too. The reason i’m typing this is i saw them again on the 9th of july 4 or 5 of them traveelling over hailsham west to south very bright and fast then come back and hover again i videoed it but it does’ntg come out well. this was again at about 10.45 but the sky lighter and the lights seemed lower but not a airliner or helicopter could have been fast jet fighters but very rare over hailsham and have we got enough in this country to be flying in fives at night and none were displaying pulsing safety lights my dads an avide plane spotter so i’m familiar with air craft and have lived under the gatwick flight path for years so recognise most aircraft. just glad i’m not the only one and glad that we all saw the same thing

i live in old town, eastbourne. i was having a fag on the decking in my garden when i noticed two orange balls in the sky. one was close the other far away. as the closer moved across the sky it dipersed into thin air. i ran to get my phone to use the camara, when i returned the other ball was now as close as the last, i tried to fucus on the strange orange ball but my phone would not pick it up, which it very very strange as it picked up the head and tail lights of a passing plane some 5 mins after. this is not the first time i have seen them, some 2 months previous to this i saw them on the other side of my house passing over beachy head, my mate who was leaving at the time was so baffeld that he tried to follow it to no avail. these wer not planes, and im not the kind of person to belive in alliens or anything prarnormal at all. but something wasnt right about these perfect orange spheres, so much so i caused me to research them on the net. if anyone has any sucssesful photos please let me know.

Hi, I live in Scotland, Falkirk area and me and my girl have just witnessed these orange balls. Have came across this site trying to research what these were – thought maybe something to do with the meteor shower. We have just watched 3 of them, appear about 20 seconds apart, huge fireball like objects – no noise. Went from south easterly direction to north westerley got smaller until size of a star and disappeared. All took exactly the same route. I got them on video on my phone but they look white. They were around 20 times the size of a normal star. Weirdest thing I have ever seen. This was around 11.20pm

I saw many of these orange balls flying in the sky while coming home from work around 10-10:25pm on the 12th august was heading up lotbridge drove towards hampden park. they looked to be in a strange formation but i couldnt work out what was happening. they all disapeared it looked like they were above the downs somewhere. anyway i spotted one of these no more than a week ago flying around town or something was from the back rooms window i pointed out to somebody else to see as they arrived it turned around at great speed and vanished.
Ive no idea if this is in any relation to airbourne just seemed alittle late for a show ive not seen the programe but hope this helps
