Bromsgrove, Worcestershire-1st July 2009
Location of Sighting: Bromsgrove, Worcs
Date of Sighting: 1st July 2009
Time: 10:45pm
Witness Name: George Carey
Witness Statement: I am a keen amateur astronomer and like to think that I can tell the difference between a meteor, a Chinese Lantern or an aircraft. At 10:45pm on 1st July I had just gone indoors after having a quick perusal of the sky. I saw a bright orange light through my kitchen window. I hurried back outside and saw the light approaching from the East. If it hadn't been orange I would have taken it for a helicopter searchlight. The object moved rapidly and stayed equally bright, even though it was now to my North, at an elevation of about 65 degrees. If it had been a searchlight then it must have been trained on me! There was no sound at all, and the object moved in a straight line. If you have seen the Space Station passing overhead then you will have some idea of the speed. If anything, the orange object was a little faster. As it moved towards the West the object started to dim, and then appeared to pass into clouds.
There was very little wind which rules out the lantern theory. To travel that fast there would need to be a hurricane in action. It was not a conventional aircraft because no blinking lights were displayed and no sound was made.
It is unlikely that it was a fireball because it did not leave any trail, and appeared to be lower than the cloud cover.
If you imagine an orange street light at a few hundred yards then you will be able to picture what it looked like.
I am mystified. Anyone have any ideas?

I have investigated this further. The Met Office confirms that there was a 5 to 6 mile per hour Easterly wind. This agrees with the direction the object was travelling in. If the object had been a lot closer to me than I had initially estimated then it is quite possible that it was indeed a Chinese Lantern.

Ref a story from George of bromsgrove ref the 1st of july sighting. On the 4th of july at 1 am myself and 3 other people saw exactly the same object doing exactly the same thing as he had mentioned and it was bright orange making no noise what so ever.
We are just 2 miles from bromsgrove so this makes this story concrete that something is around our area on a regular basis. To confirm it as being Orange ball like gliding through the air making no noise
