Location of Sighting: Durham
Date of Sighting: 1 July 2009
Time: 11.30pm
Witness Name: Darren Coxon

Witness Statement: My friend and i were driving back from the river wear in durham last night july 1st 2009 at 11.30pm. we were driving down the a690 back to sunderland when we got about 3/4 of a mile away from the roundabout at belmont we saw a bright orange light about 100ft up. It was stationary over the right hand side of the dual carriage way. When we got closer it moved across the dual carriage way directly over the top of us. I lost sight of it as i was driving but my friend who is a total skeptic was leaning out of the window looking at ot behind us. The light then crossed back over the A690 and seemed to be traveling north towards us. I managed to stop the van on the slip road to caravan site and got out to have a look. I could still see the light but it was much higher in the sky and much further away. It was realy foggy and the street light was hindering me seeing it so i ran up dual carriage way to have a better look. The light headed off towards the river which is the best way i can describe it. I dont believe it was a helicopter as there was no sound from and no strobe lights I also dont believe a helicopter would fly in that fog.

I have seen a bright orange light when i was fishing the wear a couple of years ago but it may have been one of them balloons with the cand on as it only traveled in one direction unlike this one which was stationary and moved in all different directions. I wish we could have got a pic but probably wouldnt have been very good quality anyway due to fog and speed we were traveling.
