Orange Light Sightings-October 2009-Volume 1
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area.
Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability “Chinese Lantern” sightings based on the information provided.
Any such sightings received through the “Submit Sighting Form” will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it’s county area.
The “Orange Light Sightings” will be published in Volumes of about 20 eye witness accounts.
We hope you enjoy reading the many graphic accounts submitted.

Location of Sighting: Loughton, ESSEX
Date of Sighting: Thursday 1st October 2009
Time: approx. 10:30pm.
Witness Name: Honey Koumis
Witness Statement: I was driving up Alderton Hill in Loughton (towards Borders Lane) when I noticed a very bright orange light in the sky to my right. I slowed down to get a better look and saw that it was a large bright orange ball, not quite as high as a star and certainly not an aeroplane. It was not perfectly round in shape but seemed to be still and flickering a little. As I continued to watch this strange ball of light I noticed it was slowly moving down. I pulled over desperately looking for my mobile which obviously I couldn’t find! It disappeared behind the house in front of me as it came downwards so I began to drive where I could get it in view. Once I did see it again it seemed to have travelled away from my direction within a matter of seconds and became a tiny orange dot in the sky. I have never in my life experienced anything like this! Did anyone else see this on Thursday night? It was a very clear night and was impossible to miss!
October 15th, 2009 at 11:03 pm

Just seen a bright orange ball head from the direction of Oldham, over Royton and to the right of Manchester but it seemed to just dissapear. It was to low and bright to be an aircraft. It was silent and travelling in a straight line. First reaction was a shooting star or somthing falling to earth that had just burned out but I don’t know. Anyone else see anything ?

Location of Sighting: New Malden, Surrey
Date of Sighting: 2nd October 2009
Time: 22:30
Witness Name: Tony Cooper
Witness Statement: Walking one of my two dogs, nearing home when one, then a second, third and then a fourth round orange light appeared over the roof tops travellling quite serenely from west to east. Difficult to estimate height and size but I felt that they were below cloud level and about the size of a 5 pence piece held at arms length. Kept in sight until obscuured by buildings opposite. Hurried home to tell my partner but they were gone when we looked. Discussed for a few minutes then my other dog insisted on being taken for his walk. As I turned the first corner of our block another orange light came into view following the direction of the previous four. When I returned home my partner said that she had also seen this one whilst standing in the garden with the first dog.
This area is on the main flight pattern for Heathrow airport and we are familiar with aircraft. These objects made no sound and glowed steadily, there were no navigation lights. My partner said it was “spooky”.
I’d love to know whether anybody else saw these lights or can explain them.

I saw an orange globe from my flat balcony in Ipswich over the river orwell last Christmas eve at around 9.45pm.I had a very clear view of it as it moved from right to left and stopped directly in front of me at an estimated height of 50-60 feet in the air. there was no wind and no sound. It was a mottled orange/red colour which was constantly changing. This ‘energy’ appeared to be escaping out of the top of the globe, it remained motionless in front of me and slowly got smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared from sight. It was NOT a Chinese lantern,it did not fall to the ground or move,it simply seemed to phase out. Since then I have read reports from around the world of exactly the same event taking place. I do not think there is a worldwide conspiracy to release Chinese Lanterns as a hoax, it is too widespread and there are too many. I think that maybe we are being alerted to the presence of some intelligent beings in a non frightening way so as not to cause panic, maybe they are not happy with the way this planet is being run by certain very rich people at the top, maybe the sightings will increase as we approach 2012! I think that people who just say off hand that these are lanterns are an insult to my intelligence.

Location of Sighting: Stoneydelph, Tamworth, Staffs,UK
Date of Sighting: 04/10/09
Time: 1900 hours
Witness Name: Lisa Anderson & Adele Tomlinson
Witness Statement: While walking dogs on the fields adjacent to the M42 motorway near to Middlesmoor, Stoneydelph we saw what I first thought was a hot air balloon travelling from the direction of Dordon over the M42 towards Stoneydelph. It appeared to have a large orange flame underneath what looked like an orange canopy almost like a balloon. We could not see a basket and we realised it was travelling far too fast for a hot air balloon. As we watched it stopped in the sky almost above us but still very high up, then moved quickly from side to side, then stopped again for approx 1 minute. It then seemed to rise upwards very fast and then the flame went out and we could see a black shape which then moved off fast towards Atherstone and out of sight in the clouds. There was absolutley no wind this evening and due to the noise from the motorway we couldnt say whether there was any noise from the object. Anyone else see it?????

Witness Name: The Austwick Family
Witness Statement: My wife, came running down the stairs shouting to look outside at an orange light travelling across the sky. All four of us went outside our conservatory and watched as the orange ball flew past at the speed you would associate with a passenger jet. I did manage to capture some video footage on my iphone but the quality is quite poor but shows the object as white with flashing lights. We watched the object travel toward Sutton Coldfield before losing sight of it. We did not hear any noise from the object. My first thought was a meteor but it was flying below the clouds and across, not down.

October 25th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
On the 22nd of October my sister was outside my mothers house in prenton wirral and saw a flame in the sky. Thinking it was a plane on fire she called my dad and mum. All three observed the object, appearing to be at the height and speed of an airliner. It was like “a flaming torch without the handle” and therefore not a conventional aircraft on fire (as the flames would flicker away from the direction of travel). It was a constant speed with no sound and was following an arcing flight path not straight (roughly south to north heading towards upton).
October 25th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Further to last, Dad is a bit of a plane spotter and with Liverpool airport and the military stuff in north wales there’s a lot of planes to see from the garden. He states it was following the flight path aircraft often take overhead, normally helicopters from the direction of north wales.
He thinks it was too fast and following too purposful of a flight path to be a chinese lantern.
October 25th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Stourbridge – West Midlands I was sat in the bedroom on my pc and turned to see a large bright orange ball of light in the sky (seemed to be hovering)lower than the height of a plane) My other half also saw this out of the lounge window and shouted me to see if i had seen it. It was far too large for any chinese lantern and it was rising to quickly into the sky, there was no sound at all to it. I viewed it through the window for about 30seconds watching it rising higher and getting smaller quite quickly, i then ran down stairs and outside into the street to see it was still visible but moving and shrinking faster and faster. We were both there amazed at this site. The ball got higher and higher and further away (going from West to East) until it eventually vanished out of site.

October 26th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
This sighting was at 5.45pm on Monday 26th October, in Tingley nr Wakefield/Leeds.#
I have never seen anything like this before !!
I was stood at the back door of our house looking southwards when i saw a bright orange light coming from the east, at first thinking it was the west yorkshire police helicopter taking off from nearby, but then realising it was traveling way too fast for it to be the ‘copper chopper’. I grabbed my phone to video the light, and just as i went back outside another one appeared from the same area and same speed. They both ‘hovered’ quite high in the sky, with no sound, and very slight movement. Both started to disapear upwards so i ran to grab the binoculars to see closer, both were quite far apart when i returned but still moving upwards and getting fainter, on inspection through the binocs, they almost looked as though the orange lights were beaming from the top of them. I watched them until they fully disapeared behind the clouds. I really dont think these were chinese lanterns as i have seen these before at a friends party, and the way they moved had no resemblance what so ever to what i just saw..
This sighting was at 5.45pm on Monday 26th October, in Tingley nr Wakefield/Leeds.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
20:45, 26th October 2009
Brierley Near Barnsley, South Yorkshire
I was stood outside in the back garden when I saw a bright orange (like a flame/ burning ember) moving in the sky. It came over the house, into the wind in a dead straight line and then 1 minute later another one came over. There was no sound at all so ruleing out aircraft and travelled at a constant speed against the wind and I watched them disappear far into the distance.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Sighting – 18:30 26th Oct 2009, Redcar, Cleveland.
Walking home from work I spotted two orange globes in the sky, both heading West. Both were quite high in the sky and I could hear no noise. Suddenly one disappeared and the other gradually disappeared in roughly the same area in the sky as the first. The objects speed was similar to an aircraft. I would say the objects headed in from the North, possibly even from the North sea.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
20:30, 25th October 2009
Epsom, Surrey
I was outside having a ciggy and I saw a bright organge light coming from West, heading East. It looked high up to me and was travelling faster than an Airoplane (we live pretty much under a flight path so see these frequently). I watched it dissappear west and then another appeared from the east on the same projectory. In my humble opinion, these were not Chinese lanterns. The flame was far too big considering the height and speed they appeared to be travelling at.

October 29th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
28th October 2009: orange glowing sphere high up in the sky above Loughborough villages. Moving north east, higher than the clouds as it moved behind them and then disappeared. Seemed to be dripping orange embers. Looked like it was moving too fast and too high to be a lantern. Also seemed fairly large considering it’s height. Anyone else see this around 8:45pm?
October 30th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Anon….one of the ones i saw (the second one) seemed to be dripping/releasing orange ember/spheres too, i thought it was my eyes at first or a trail when i looked through the binoculars. Glad you mentioned that. I didnt mention it cos i thought it was just me.
October 30th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Seen 3 over manchester last night, triangle formation maintaing speed and course in a straight line until fading away into the distance, made no noise
October 30th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Could these be missiles or rockets? Although they seemed to be going too slow and too large
October 30th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Large orange light travelling South To North over Worksop, South yorkshire at about 17:30 this evening – saw the same thing 2 nights ago a little later – exactly the same path, too large for a star / chinese lantern, very silent both times disaapeared into the sky, travelled a lot slower than a plane – no navigation / flashing lights seemed to drop a smaller flame only visable for a few seconds.
October 31st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
I have just seen this orange flame type object moving across the sky at high speed low altitude and moving in a straight line heading east across Milton Keynes. It is Halloween but this did spook me! No sound from object I would say it was travelling at about 250 mph and at about 1000ft I managed to get some video footage but very poor quality. It remained in view for about 3 mins. No flashing lights like on aircraft. It had the same sort of colour as an orange street lamp. Flames were clearly visible coming out at all angles though but no vapour trail etc. Weirdest thing I have seen yet?
October 31st, 2009 at 9:52 pm
We seen two orange Flame-like objects blaze across the sky at about 21:30, in Liverpool. One after another the second kind of following the second, no noise so definately not a helicopter or a plane the usuall objects. Maybe military Jets? Definately nothing me or my family have ever seen before !

I saw something similar at approximately 6.15pm over Northampton this evening. A bright orange light moving slowly across the sky. It looked like an object on fire but there was no smoke or jets of flame emanating from it. More like a fire ball. There was no sound either. I observed it for a couple of minutes until it disappeared out of view. About 5 minutes later we spotted it again but in a different position. It might have been the same object or a different one. If anyone has an explanation for this I’d love to hear it.

I saw 2 orange lights over Rushden in Northamptonshire last night; 9.25 and 10.30pm. Moving very fast (too fast to be a plane) solid lights no flickering, quite large, no noise. I’ve always thought we are not alone but always think there must be an explaination for these sightings… however i can’t explain what i saw last night!!

At approx 20:45 outside my house in Doncaster, I noticed what appeared to be a large ball (although at distance) of fire comming towards me (from approx 5 miles away). The object then turned to my left (at speed) then it gained altitude then diminshed in size presumably due to distance rather than a reduction of luminosity. I am a rational person but I can’t describe this experience away. I have never seen anything like this before, I shouted for my cousin to witness the event. We discussed it afterwards at length and established that we had interepreted exactly the same event. Movement appeared controled/deliberate (not wind) and NOT a lantern unless it was EXTREMELY large with an outer combustible material whilst being able have zero effect on main structure and propulsion system.

I was walking home from a night out with my husband on Sat night/Sun morning Halloween night at 12:40am when we saw a glowing bright orange light. We at first thought it was a plane on fire but dismissed it as there was no engine noise or sound. We proceeded to the corner of our road and saw another one on exactly the same course, followed by two more in succession. To the naked eye from the ground, they were spaced around 30 seconds apart. They disappeared in the same spot, and when my husband ran to get his binoculars, he saw nothing and thought they had gone. However another one appeared, further apart from the other four and my husband got a clear view through the binoculars, it was circular and glowing bright orange. No sound and no vapour trail. I was disturbed to find this page as I thought this was a one-off. Very frightening.

As I got off the train at Swinton train station (S. Yorks) at approx. 10.35 pm I caught sight of a bright orange globe flying SSW – NNE.
There was no deviation of altitude or direction. It was very breezy at the time which leads me to discount the fact that it could have been a lantern balloon. Also, I will point out that the globe was solidly glowing with no flickering and no fade out at the edges like would be expected with one of the lanterns.

31st October 2009 – Halloween
central oxford during a guided walk though the city. Spotted along with other people 5 – 6 red orange orb like lights. they were in a string like an elongated necklace. Thought could be fireworks or helicopters, But remained in view for 5 minutes moving across the sky at a constant speed with no sound. we continued with the walk and then over a further 10 minutes saw another 20 similar lights pass over us. we never saw where they went, as disappeared from view through a tree and a building blocking our observation. when we moved to spot them again, we could not see them again.

yesterday (4th Nov 2009) @ 7.15pm, i witnessed the same as what is described. It was a bright orange light travelling from west to east from the direction of walsall heading towards birmingham. I am located in sutton coldfield and watched this light from my back garden as it moved silently across. The intenstiy of the light was the same throughout and appeared to be flickering slightly as it moved along. Couldn’t make any shape out or judge how far it was away but it was below the cloud level and incredibly bright which is what drew my attention to it and why i know it wasn’t a lantern…it was just way too bright!

Saw an orange light surrounded by an orange glow as I was about to enter my house in Letchworth, Herts at about 5.45 on October 31st. The object moved in a straight line past me and made no sound. I could clearly see flames in the middle of the glowing light. The object then moved in a curve before stopping and slowly fading out.

I have witnessd this orange light, no sound- below cloud level.
At first I thought U.F.O.! (As I think this is most peoples conditional reaction to seeing strange lights in the sky)
I watched it dissapear into the distance then I came inside and typed in What I had seen, hence writing this on this Site. The statement at the top of the page said ‘Chinese lanterns, so I made another tab and wrote Chinese festivals in November as this seemed to reaccur quite often on peoples statements here, which brought up a site detailing Chinese festivals throughout the Year. I found out that you can buy them ready made and it seems that when you buy 15 or more you get different colours which were neon-lke blue and pink.
I later told my girlfriend and she agreed as she told me that you can now even buy them in a discount chain store in Town!
So my conclusion is that anyone can buy them now and use them any time they want. And that has lead me to think that there may be another site on the International Network saying people have spotted pink and blue lights too, so I will check it out.

i am a security guard that works nights. i have seen these lights 4 5 times before, corby, finedon, northampton.
While at work in corby i saw one orange light traverling way to low to be an aircraft or anything else anyone can possibly think of ‘it wasn’t’. After watching it for 5 mins coming straight towards me it turned a sharp left right above the a45, then another one came from the same direction as the other and also turned a sharp left exactly where the 1st one turned then they carried on heading above wierd????
When i first saw these lights i also thought it was i chinese lantern, but i know what they look like in the sky snd it was not a chinese lantern! they changed speed direction height!!!! what the fxxx
