Kendal-31st October 2009
Location of Sighting: Kendal
Date of Sighting: Saturday 31st October 2009
Time: 18:32
Witness Name:Nigel T
Witness Statement: I was at home looking out towards ndalCunswick Fell from Burneside Road, in Kendal, when I saw a bright orange light moving from the south west to north east. It was a cloudy night and there were no stars visible so it must have been below the clouds. There was no wind blowing and it made no sound. I took this photograph but, as I had it on full zoom it hasn't come out very clearly.
Definately not a Chinese lantern - any other ideas?

Nigel:
This is interesting, because enlarged it looks for all the world like a balloon doll laying face down, with two straight legs on the right, building up to slightly wider body, and even wider head/shoulders, with heavy hair, or head gear.
There have been some of these kinds of things released, and mistaken for UFOs, which, were found to be illuminated from within.
Advertisers use them.
But then again, turned another way, it may be something entirely different, like a solid craft, or, even a projected light, of some description. NASA has this capability, as Sam reminded me tonight.
If it was performing speedy twists and turns, had seemingly intelligent direction, it’s certainly not a balloon.
And even I can see it’s not a Chinese lantern.
It looks more like a glowing drum stick, of the poultry kind:-)
Just some of the things that came to mind.
Seriously though, good picture, fascinating.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the photo doesn’t reflect exactly what I saw because I don’t think the camera was steady enough, because I had it on full zoom. It looked like an orange orb and didn’t have the apparent ‘tail’ or ‘legs’ as seen on the photo.
I’ve come across a few people who have seen the same thing. I just saw the one – others have seen them in two’s or three’s.
It was the fact that it was below cloud level, so not too high up, made no sound and also move at a constant speed that alerted me to it being something unusual. There was no breeze either because the clouds weren’t moving – only the object, so it must have been propelling itself. Other people I’ve spoken to have seen them change direction and even stop.
Regards, Nigel

Hi again Nigel:-)
Did you see the picture of the one that was reported shortly after yours… almost the same, except it had a sort of eye shaped aura round it?
Taking shots into the sky isn’t easy at the best of times, even leaning on a wall you still get camera shake, unless you do a serious sky watch, sit for hours with a tripod, a steady shot isn’t possible, since most sightings are unexpected and unpredictable in movement.
But at least we’re snapping them, and the speed of diital cameras does get as close as is possible to an actual shape, given distances and sky conditions as well.
Keep your camera on you, mines with me all the time these days, I’ll risk the shake and the sceptics.
Smiles
Jeanette:-)

Hi,
I live in Natland, a village that is two miles south of Kendal, and a sighting of a UFO shaped like an orange ball has just been reported – see http://www.natland.info/News.html.
Interestingly, my son and a friend saw a similar object in the late evening a few months ago.

I am glad that you have taken the photograph and other people have seen this orange orb.
I was in Kendal, near Oxenholme at approx 7pm (at Westmorland General visiting, so I know the time and date) on November 6th 2009. I saw this orb travelling at a constant speed, not too fast at an angle, travelling under cloud, towards the higher cloud level. As it hit cloud it disappeared, and seemed to gather momentum.
I, along with a number of visitors, saw this orange orb. It wasn’t a balloon as the angle that it travelled at, and the speed, were not the type associated for a balloon.
