Orange Light Sightings-November 2009-Volume 1
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple red and orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area. Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability “Chinese Lantern” sightings based on the information provided.Any such sightings received through the “Submit Sighting Form” will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it’s county area.
The “Orange Light Sightings” are published by month in Volumes of about 40 eye witness accounts.
We hope you enjoy reading the many graphic accounts submitted.

Location of Sighting: Bournemouth, Dorset
Date of Sighting: 01/11/09
Time: 23:40
Witness Name: Lawrence McKenna
Witness Statement: Last night I had just returned home from work and parked my car in a street in Suthbourne as I walked across the street I saw in the sky travelling about the 80 – 90-mph at a height of about 1500 feet a pale coloured sphere with a yellow glow, possibly flames coming from the back. It travelled in a steady and straight trajectory from Bournemouth and across the sky and disappeared in the direction of Christchurch. I’m not sure what it was but if I’d suggest it was probably one of those ballons with the light at the bottom that float up in the air. The only strange thing about this was the speed and accurate trajectory. I’ve been a member of the emergency services for 12 years now and consider myself to be reasonably level headed but I’m not 100% sure what it was.

Witness Statement: On Saturday 31/10 we were taking our children trick or treating and an orange, bright light in the sky was moving at some speed about cloud level at 7pm. There was no noise coming from whatever this was and it resembled what I can only describe as a ball of flames with what can only be described as flames dropping off it. Then tonight, 3/11, at the same time the same bright orange light flew over our house and appeared to get higher as it flew in the distance. I have never seen anything like it?

Location of Sighting: Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
Date of Sighting: 03 November, 2009.
Time: 7 35 pm
Witness Name: Steve Walton
Witness Statement: While standing in my garden at around
7.30 pm i noticed a bright orange light in the sky. i watched the light travel over head. Initially the light was moving from west to east, But slowed slightly before changing direction & heading off in a north easterly direction. The light itself looked like a ball of fire as it passed over head, It was about the size of a five pence piece at arms length & made no sound as far as i could tell. The whole sighting lasted around 2 or 3 minutes.
I would also like to add that i have been sky watching for at least 25 years & have never seen anything that could not be explained, But this was something altogether different from anything i have seen before.

At around 2045h on 5.11.09 I witnessed a single, orange orb travelling from the direction of Wombourne towards Bromsgrove. It passed overhead at Blackheath, Halesowen. I first saw the light from about ten miles and it had reached our vantage point within around two minutes ruling out the possibility of it being a firework/ Chinese lantern. Not the first time i’ve seen an orb at this location, last time was around five months ago in the same area.

Hello Neil.
I have been trying to find out something, any sort of information about a bright orange light in the sky, traveling across bristol aprox 8:30pm last night on 5th November 2009! I have found no information re comet, asteriod etc but have come across this site where you have mentioned identical information altho the difference is the time!
Myself, partner and our friend witnessed this bright orange light and watched it until it vanished! We noticed that it emitted no sound and seemed to be traveling much faster than an aeroplane!
Still dont know what it is, was? any ideas would be welcome!

They were making no sound and travelling quite fast. One gradually faded away. About 15 minutes later we saw another similar orange light – this time on its own. Yes – it was Bonfire night but these were certainly not fireworks! I might add that I am highly sceptical over the existence of UFOs.

November 7th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
would just like to say, on 5/11/09, after returing from a bonfire and fireworks display, got out of the car and watched random fireworks across the skyline, then my husband and I spotted a bright orange dome shaped, almost like a bright orange jellyfish scouring the sky. At first it went up, and up, higher and higher, then it went over us, and did random up and down then horizontal movements, us standing there fixated, as it went over the houses, beyond our vision. It definitely wasnt a firework, as we stood waiting for it to pop in the sky. Very odd, got pictures of it though.
November 7th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
I saw one of these orange light-sightings on November 5.
However I have the following questions:
1. Why these lights are more often than not orange when Chinese flying lanterns come in a vatiety of different colours?
2. Why the objects are so bright in the night sky, brighter than Venus?
3. Why I could not resolve the star-like object with 16×50 binoculars even though the objects were released over the same small town where I live?
November 7th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Location of Sighting: Chorley, Lancashire
Date of Sighting: 7th November
Time: 21:30 – 21:45
Witness Name: Jared (myself) and Judith
Witness Statement: My mum and I had spotted 3 orange star-like lights in the sky moving slowly northward. They were perfectly silent. They went over our house, so we went outside and continued watching. 2 more appeared and sped up rapidly, also heading north. We met two other witnesses outside who claimed to have seen about 12 altogether, 2 of which headed south-west. It was very odd and fairly unnerving; it was almost as if they were using the fireworks as a form of camouflage.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Location of sighting: Newmains, North Lanarkshire
Date of sighting: 19:50pm and also 20:10pm
I was standing with my work colleages outside care home where we work having a cigarette before we started our nightshift when my colleage had been disturbed by something out of the corner of her eye, she told us to look up into the sky and travelling at speed we saw what looked like an orange fireball with lights flashing on the bottom of it (sounds weird, i know) I said to kathie that it looked like a plane was on fire or a helicopter but it just kept flying over in a straight line, directions arent my best but I think it was heading south westerly direction (ayrshire area from me i think) anyway we went in at 8pm and one of my dayshift colleagues finished and was getting a left from her father when it was around 20:10pm by now and her dad got out of car as he and leigha witnessed another 5 “lights” in a round cluster travelling in the same direction we all ran to the windows after leigha called me on my mobile from outside to come look! we spoke about it this morning to day staff coming in and some told us that it would have been chinese lanterns….according to us it seems impossible as these “things” were as big as Planes! it was things that were on fire quite dramatically! we are convinced it was U.F.O’s we would like to know if anyone else in this area witnessed them also? wooooo newmains on X-Files eh?? excitin!
November 8th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
my partner and i saw the exact same thing last night over Langley Mill, Nottinghamshire. it was at roughly 8.30pm. there were 2 of them and a gap of roughly 15 minutes between the 2. they seemed to come from the direction of Ilkeston and move quickly and silently across the sky in the general direction of ripley. they seemed to “burn out” after a while as we watched. they were NOT fireworks as they travelled across the sky, were almost as high up as you would see a plane, with no sound and they seemed to be burning. it was a very strange experience
November 8th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Last night on the 7 November 2009 at between 8.30 and 9pm me and my boyfriend craig were heading back from watching fireworks in canterbury when we noticed this glowing round orange ball in the sky which seemed as though it were on fire. It was travelling at around the speed of a plane given how high it was in the sky. I panicked and thought it was some kind of astroid and tried to get me and my boyfriend as far away from the burning orange thing in the ky as quickly as possible, this caused arguments as my fella was curious and wanted to watch it but before long it had disappeared. Today we were speaking to my mother and nan when they said they had seen it about 4 years ago!! I mean what is this thing!!
November 8th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
On the 7th nov 2009 father and daughter we had both been talking what we had seen in the sky last night about 9:30 – 10:00ish in birmingham. we was at 2 different addresses at the time. i was letting dog out and noticed a big orange and red ball like fire with a plastic wich looked like a a plastic bag on fire obviously this was not as it was going some speed and it disapered. dad shape was different it looked on fire and disapered in cloud. What was this!!!?????
November 8th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
I have seen this orange/red light about a dozen times in the last 2 weeks alone, i even have a couple of pictures of it on my mobile phone, latest sighting was tonight at around 7pm (8/11/09)
At first i couldnt understand what it is, looked up every possiblity as to its definition. Like a previous report, i seen (last night) flecks of flame dropping from it while it was still moving at speed travelling south to north in the birmingham area, that was last night, tonight it was moving north to south at approximately the same time.
At first i thought this was a low orbit satellite that was possibly re-entering the atmosphere, but like so many suggestions, there is still to be a basis of fact.
I’d love to know what it is, going to try and get a clearer picture of it as i’m certain that i will be seeing it again.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
My husband was watching fireworks on the front doorstepm with our kids when he called me to look at the orange thing he’d spotted. I looked and it was just as if it were something on fire/an ember from a firework floating across the sky, however it went too far to be a remenant of a firework. We’re in Birmingham too. Could it have been a chinese lantern?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I live in Lancaster, Lancashire, and at about 7.15 this evening (8th November) I saw a bright orange orb moving across the sky coming almost directly towards my house, at about cloud level. Me and my girlfriend watched it from our front door for about a minute, then when it seemed from our perspective to be almost right above us it stopped moving, hung there for a further minute or so, jerked slightly to one side and then quickly faded away (maybe gaining altitude?). Problem is people will dismiss it as a firework but it was definitely not a firework, not a plane as they don’t stop, satellites are small white points of light like a moving star, and I’ve never seen a helicopter with an orange light-they have red and white lights. I saw the same thing last night just as I was getting home from work at about 6.15-it moved along pretty much the same path but continued on over my house-I rushed to the back door but it had disappeared. Never seen the like. Just spent the last hour scouring the web for any other sightings. Thought I was going mad but now I’ve found similar sightings I feel relieved. I tried to film it on my phone but it’s a bit crappy. I’m now keeping my camcorder fully charged and next to the door! Very weird.

November 10th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
on sunday 8th nov 2009 we were in the car upon getting out for some reason we all looked up, to our amazement we saw 4 lights of which looked like firework embers not taking much notice we then kept watching these very bright orange lights for about 10 mins when the 3 which formed a triangle sped off leaving no trail but the 4th light remained for about 40 seconds then vanished we were at tesco south wigston looking towards wigston although no sound was heard the area was really silent all night after this were slight flickering of orange lights in the sky but nothing as bright
November 10th, 2009 at 8:31 pm

November 14th 2009. Hertfordshire.
?
Approx 15 minutes ago, i have just seen a orange light hovering quite fast in the sky.
My dad works with airplanes and he said this was not one at all.
It was traveling fast, low and it was an orange ball just like a fireball
we was out on our balcony when my dad called me out at 10:50 pm and asked me if i knew what it was, i had no idea. i asked my mum and she had no idea. it was unexplained and it was travelling in a straight line. it was heading north, and about 3 minutes later we saw another one. we have been looking out for it for the past 10 minutes but nothing has come.
does anyone know what this might have been
November 15th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Date of sighting: 15/11/09
Time: 17.58
Place: Birstall, Leicester
We were driving and suddenly saw a bright orb like object in the sky. It was moving at quite a fast pace and in a straight trajectory. We have a picture and a movie on my mobile. When we zoomed into the picture it seems it has three orbs within it. Very strange!
November 15th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
We saw two of these Orange lights in the sky at around 7.50pm this evening over Sittingbourne,Kent. they came from an easterly direction but then headed North towards the Isle of Sheppey, they were silent and flew around the same speed as a helicopter would, as we watched they disappeared out of view, I’ve never witnessed anything like it in my life and nor has my husband who in 69 years has never witnessed anything like it either!! I’m convinced that these were not chinese lanterns, they were far too bright for that.

Driving east on the A48 when I noticed the small round but bright orange light. It seemed quite high in the sky and had a motion similar to that of a falling star. The movement was quick and short and disappeared within a couple of seconds.

I live in Lancaster, UK (Bowerham area) and last night (18th Dec) at about 10.30pm, my husband and I watched a bright orange non-flickering globe of light travel quickly, smoothly and silently for about 40 seconds until it stopped and just faded. The night was very clear so no clouds to hide behind. What on earth was it?

Well this isn’t the first time i saw this light me and a friend was out getting our delivery and the first time we saw this light it was big! going normal fast speed!
and today was having a smoke out of kitchen window! i over look a school field! so i have some clear sky view! and saw it again i tried to get a picture but this time it looked smaller then the first sighting! i can honestly say it wasn’t a chinese lantern, simple reason is was moving straight then it slowed down and turned to it right and move slower and vanished
