Orange Light Sightings-November 2009-Volume 2
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple red and orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area. Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability "Chinese Lantern" sightings based on the information provided.Any such sightings received through the "Submit Sighting Form" will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it's county area. The "Orange Light Sightings" are published by month in Volumes of about 40 eye witness accounts.
We hope you enjoy reading the many graphic accounts submitted.

Location of Sighting: Goldthorpe, Rotherham
Date of Sighting: 31 october 2009
Time: 18:10
Witness Name: N.C
Witness Statement: I was stood in the garden watching some fireworks in the distance. An orange, meteor like ball of fire streaked horizontally across my vision, approx’ 100ft from the ground. As it approached a line of houses it changed direction and flew away from me diagonally towards the sky.
While heading in this direction, what I can only discribe as a “drip” of flame or light came from it followed by another. The object then carried on it’s course until It was too far in the sky to see. This was not a firework unless it was (a) remote controlled and (b) had enough fuel to propel it out of sight skyward on a dark night.

Location of Sighting: Leith, Easter Road, Dalmeny Street
Date of Sighting: 05/11/2009
Time: 20:35
Witness Name: Aldo
Witness Statement: At 20:35 i was walking down Dalmentystreet from Leith Walk on Easter Road and thought what i saw was a firework but after about 10 seconds it didn’t explode and just kept gliding along slowly, it was bright orange and shiny and was about as low as a helicopter but there was no sound coming from it and it moved in a straight line really slowly above me for about a minute or longer.
I then saw a guy having a cig outside a pub watching it too so I knew it wasn’t just me that thought it was odd, I went into my house then realised the people across the road came out there house to watch and then it disappeared. I saw a similar thing at elm row in Leith Walk last year except there were 5 in a row moving silently and some people from the pubs and the Italian restaurant Giulianos stood an watched these at they went down London Road,it was around 2:30 am, i then got in a cab and the driver said he has been driving the streets at night for years and had never seen anything like it.

November 10th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Location of Sighting: Redditch, Worcestershire
Date of Sighting: 5th November 2009
Time: 19:03
Witness Name: Peter
Witness Statement: I know it was Guy Fawkes night, but what I saw was not fireworks. Leaving work and approaching The Dog roundabout at the junction of the A435 and the A4189 I saw two orange lights in the sky. They looked almost like two stars, but were too large and were moving parallel to each other in an easterly direction. They glowed as if on fire, but did not fall, or rise. There was no tail and their movement was steady. I parked in carpark at The Dog and watched them suddenly move very quickly away accross the sky and disappear. I tried to get a picture, but my phone is not sensitive enough to capture in the dark. Really unusual and definately not a plane, or any other object. Their trajectory was straight and stayed parallel all the way.

Date of Sighting: 7th November 2009
Time: 7.30pm
Witness Name: Lisa Griffiths
Witness Statement: We were all in the garden (me, my husband and 3 sons) watching fireworks when I saw what I thought was a helicopter. Not an unusual sight where we live. But as it got nearing I noticed it looked as though it was on fire. It was an orange orb travelling quite fast and firey bits dropping from it. There was no sound as it went over usand seemed lower than cloud level. We watched it disappear over the houses then my husband shouted that there was another one. It was travelling in the same direction but over to the right. After about 10 minutes I spotted another one travelling in the same direction as the first. I will admit it freaked us out a bit!

Location of Sighting: Kenilworth, Warwickshire
Date of Sighting: 7/11.09
Time: 6:30-9:00pm
Witness Name: Mathew Leeke
Witness Statement: Whilst waiting for the bonfire display in Kenilworth tonight we saw 5 floating amber lights moving in a triangular formation with a couple hanging shortly behind. They moved slowly northwards and disapeared for a couple to return shortly afterwards and hung about over the Abbey Fields park. They were slow moving and low compared to aircraft and off the flight path and totally silent. They were noticed by many of the onlookers at the display. It seems I am not the first to see these lights recently. I have no explanation for them.

Location of Sighting: Walkden (Worsley)
Date of Sighting: 07/11/09
Time: 8:30
Witness Name: Dave Brandwood and Dean Brandwood
Witness Statement: Me and my son left the local snooker club and my son was smoking in the car park, i was explaining about a sighting at heaton park which me and my partner had seen on bonfire night, i explained how we had seen a bright orange light in the sky going above the bonfire at heaton park, while i was explaining this my son pointed out a bright orange light above going towards Bolton, this was followed by 3 more of these bright orange lights in a perfect straight line, these lights did not leave formation, then there were 4 more which soon followed in a diamond formation which also never left formation. No sound whatsoever could be heard. We pointed it out to a man in the street and he looked at it and said “Oh my god, were not being attacked are we?” Obviously a fruitcake . We must have seen atleast 25-30 of these objects flying towards Bolton, they resembled the flame of a match but with the flame sideways. Any explanations would be welcomed.
November 11th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
I also saw this orange light last night-10 November 2009. Early evening I think it was between 17:00 and 18:00 I left the house to walk the dog. We live 4 floors up and as I shut the door behind me I saw this larger large reddish-orange light travelling slowy over Seaford head. It looked rather pretty amidst the cloud cover so I watched it for a while.
I was waiting for the sound of an aeroplane because it looked to high to be a helicopter. To my faint surprise it stopped and then just hung there for about a minute or 2. Now I was really intrigued – ha ha – I thought my first wide awake UFO! It then changed course and slowly made its way across the fields in the direction of maybe Eastbourne?
I wonder I wonder I wonder…. Shed light people!! (excuse the pun)
November 13th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
I was outside a friends house in Salcombe two weeks ago when I saw 4 flying objects one night around 9 pm, I would describe them as large, roundish with red and orangey yellow light coming from them. No sound. They were initially flying in formation however one broke away flew off to the left as though checking something out and then joined back with the others after a minute or so. I am certain they were not chinese lanterns as they were too big and as there was a high wind that night they were powered by something to be strong enough to withstand being blown off course.
The fact that one of them left the formation and then regrouped was weird anyway. I called my friend out to see them as I thought she’d never believe me otherwise.
And who says we are the only beings in the universe. This is the second time I’ve seen ufo things. Last time it was over the M4 and nearly caused an accident as a huge (and I mean the width of two tennis courts) round, lit up, flying object hovered over the motorway and after a minute launched straight up into the air and disappeared without a sound! Very eerie. I wasn’t on my own so I wasn’t hallucinating!
November 17th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
On 6th November in Jordanhill, Glasgow I was walking along a dark road and saw an orange light in the sky. I kept looking at it as a few nights previous I had noticed a similar light not far from there. It seemed to be moving but very slowly. I didn’t pay that much attention to it and started walking quickly to get a good vantage point for a nearby firework display. I had forgotten about the orange light and was watching the show on a hill for about ten minutes and then I saw the orange light or maybe a different one moving from south to north direction and it slowed down and stopped. I just assumed it was some type of aircraft but there was no noise from it. I’m not that interested in UFO’s so it wasn’t until I read my local newspaper which I picked up yesterday that I thought more about what I saw. There were several sightings around that date of orange lights in the sky close to where I saw those ones.See http://www.milngavieherald.co.uk/bearsdennews/Can-you-solve-the-mystery.5819674.jp

Witness Name: Simon Boardman
Witness Statement: Orange fiery sphere moving slowly below the deep low clouds. Observed it and shone my lazer light at it to see if there would be any response from it but there was none. It faded away before my eyes after about three minutes. It may well have been a chineese lantern, but if it was it was quite a substantial size.

Witness Statement: Whilst entering our house we noticed a bright (large) red light in the sky moving at a constant speed with no audible sound. it appeared to be at a height that an aircraft would fly. It was moving in a SE to NE direction It did not flash or pulse and was unlike any light I have seen in the sky. After about 20 seconds it disappeared. It was also witnessed by my wife and two of our friends. Two of the party had not partaken of any alcohol during the evening!
November 17th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Location of Sighting: Accrington, Lancashire
Date of Sighting: 7th November
Time: 11:15pm
Witness Name: Jon Gleave
Witness Statement: I saw 15-20 orange lights high up in the sky moving south to north all within the space of 10 mins through my french windows (back of house). Some of these objects lasted 2-3 mins in the sky and some moved together and then apart. Whilst having a cigarette outside the last two nights I saw 2-3 of these orange lights, moving the same speed as airplanes, thought it was a little weird but not too mention as a ‘big deal’ but now know definitely the same as what I saw tonight. I went outside tonight to the front of the house and there was no noise coming from the sky, but the orange lights were in 2-3 formations. Definitely not fireworks (too high in the sky) and not planes… 15-20 of them all coming from the same direction – no noise and moving close together then apart. I’ve read on this site that there’s been a lot of activity of these sightings over the last few nights… unusually around bonfire night, but fireworks do not fly so high up, move around and last for a few mins. I cannot explain what I saw, but in 39 years I have not seen anything like this!

we were driving fron a13 towards a127 down pound lane when my wife noticed two bright orange lights. We turned into a farm and on reaching our stables our stable manager shouted to us to look.. she had already seen 6 lights in formation then we saw another 3 seperate. these were travelling at great speed with no sound ( we could hear areoplanes and the distant noise of the road also a helicoper passed over) these lights climbed into the air towards southend and slowly got smaller untill they disapeared. afer a few minuets more came pass a total of 17 in all, the last one dissapering in front of us. it was a clear night we could see stars the movement of aeroplanes yet this last light just went.. after approx 5 mins the was a bright flash witnessed by our manager.
November 29th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
last night at approx 10.40pm we saw 6 lights moving in formation to the east – having worked for an airline for 23 years I know what a plane looks like and planes do not take off 6 at a time from one runway they all move off at in formation with one particular moving at great speed in the opposite direction to the others. the lights were bright orange moving from a square formation to an arc shape then changing position erratically – please did anyone else see what we did?
December 6th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
My boyfriend just called me down at 10:20 this evening to watch a bright orange & red light (it looked like 2 orange lights and one red in a triangle formation) glowing very brightly like flame. It went in a steady path to the north of us from roughly west to east direction, and before it went out of view it seemed to zig zag a little. It made no sound, and it took about 3 or 4 minutes to go out of sight. We live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
A couple of weeks ago his brother saw several of the same lights moving in random directions before disappearing into the night sky, and he also lives in this area.

Southend on sea
Sighting: 21.12.2009
About 9pm.
Sighted over Southend. Came from London Road direction, moved over Victoria Avenue, headed towards Prittlewell Station until it faded away.
Bright Red light, Spikey Star shape around it, I took a photo, it looks like a mini Mars/Sun, like a ball of fire, and the star shape looks like red dust (best way I can describe it..) In my photo – 3 small balls ( 2 yellow, 1 red) /circles underneath it, when you zoom in they have patterns on them) Can I upload my picture here? It definitely wasn’t a plane, I saw one later and it wasn’t anything like one.. Very strange, never seen anything like it before, any other sightings?
December 25th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Location of Sighting: Basingstoke
Date of Sighting: 25 December 2009
Time: 8pm to 8.30pm
Witness Statement: Walking home from g/f’s parents house, we see a large orange ‘flame’ in the sky moving very fast from west to east. It looked almost like an incredibly large exhaust flame on a jet engine, only there was no noise. We then saw either the same thing, or multiples, up to 4 times go across the sky with spaces of roughly 3-4 minutes between. Each pass being slightly further north. No flashing lights, it was just what looked like a ‘flame’ in that it flickered however it looked like this from every viewed angle as it passed.
Movement was very much linear with no apparrant elevation changes easily viewable.
Light was roughly 3-4times the size of the brightest star in the sky.

Christmas evening 2009 at about 7pm, looked out of lounge window and saw a bright orange light in the sky, went outside to see it and it travelled from east to west, over the South Chard (Somerset) area, it went towards an area known as Windwhistle. It was like a large ball of flame, but it made no noise, we thought hot air balloon, but it was very dark, and a hot air balloon, you hear the sound of the gas firing the heat into the balloon,it eventually went out of site after it had travelled about a couple of miles towardst the west. Not sure if the flame died out or if it just was too far out of site to see.
We were shopping in Taunton on Monday 28th december 2009, only a few days after first sighting, and we saw the same flame travelling over Taunton at about 5pm. as we were in the car coming out of Taunton we were not able to see which direction it was going, but it was definately the same as we saw on Xmas night.

hi, i was driving home along the M27 towards southampton with my partner on 25th december it was between 8.30 and 9pm and we both saw a really bright orange sphere flying very fast through the sky. it was not a palne or anything like that. it just looked like a ball of flames moving so fast, it went from being ahead of us, flew over us and seemed to slow or stop and sort of flicker from really bright to quite dim. for about 4-5 minutes it was in sight. was online trying to find out whether it was a commit but after reading the rest of the comments on here id have to say i definatly do not think it was a commit.

My brother and i were travelling through Nerston in East Kilbride when we noticed a big orange light,it was like a ball shape, it was moving and clearly wasn’t an aeroplane. It was on the 20th or 21st November, we seen it for around 2 minutes then we lost it. Then in the same street on 26th December my friend and I seen three smaller orange lights, again they were round and were similar to the Orion in terms of position.
