Location of Sighting: Okehampton, Devon
Date of Sighting: 27/12/2009
Time: 22.30
Witness Name: Nicky
Witness Statement: All the eletric went off, we went outside and realised all the electric had gone off at our end of town. There were loads of alarms going off. I looked up at the sky and saw a orange glowing ball of light. There was no noise (apart from the alarms) It was stationary and too big to be an aeroplane or helicopter plus it wasn't flashing. I watched it until it disappeared to nothing. I understand other people were out around our area and saw 3 ball's of light but described them as white. Where as the one i saw was orange / yellow. Once it had disappeared the electric came back on shortly after. It could be explained as chinese lanterns however I have seen these before and didn't immediately think that was what it was. Would be interesting to hear if others saw this and if someone knows of people lighting lanterns last night. Perhaps the power cut was co-incidental?

We live in Okehampton and although we did not see the balls of light we *did* see car headlights reflecting off the low clouds. The alarms were house burglar alarms that thought they’d been tampered with due to the loss of electricy.

My Son (22 years of age) was travelling last night on the A 421 between Bedford & Milton Keynes (around 12.30 AM on the early morning of Tuesday 29th Dec, so around two & a half hours after Jason Oliver’s sighting). He saw a very high altitude orange disc clearly in the sky which was very similar to what was seen at Lowestoft & he pulled the car over so he & his girlfriend could clearly observe it.
As at Lowestoft, it hovered, moved slowly, & then departed at a high speed that must have been very very high as it disappeared ‘at the speed of a shooting star’, to put it in his words. He was convinced that it could not be any conventional civil or military aircraft or helicopter based on its unusual change from hover to very high speed in less than a second.
Speaking as a trained scientist myself, unless there is a joker with some kind of a laser light projector travelling around the UK (which probably would not work as a beam would be visible in the slightly misty air that was around then) – there would appear to be someone or some thing in charge of an unusually capable flying vehicle over the UK at present.
If it is material, UK air traffic control should have seen it.

Apparently the power cut was caused by a large owl in flight hitting the power cables towards the eastern side of town. See http://www.okehamptonpeople.co.uk/news/UFO-Okehampton-just-trick-light/article-1650920-detail/article.html for the full story

I also witnessed the orange ball of light,I know of 3 others who witnessed it to,I live in Okehampton and watched it out of my bedroom window along with my wife,I had a camera but had removed the batterys for my torch because of the power cut.
ALso to add on of the other guys who saw it from a different part of town said quite a few car alarms were going off too.
I also know of another sighting, very close, very detailed description and lasting for over 10 mins in this area.
