Orange Light Sightings-December 2009-Volume 1
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple red and orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area. Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability “Chinese Lantern” sightings based on the information provided.Any such sightings received through the “Submit Sighting Form” will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it’s county area. The “Orange Light Sightings” are published by month in Volumes of about 40 eye witness accounts.
We hope you enjoy reading the many graphic accounts submitted.

December 9th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
If you google police helicopter at night or emergancy helicopter at night you will see images and videos of what you call ufo’s, the orange glow is created by the very powerful spot lamp that is below the helicopter, also you can see orange orb with red which is the infared light, if you watch it for long enough it will evenetualy turn it off and you will see blinking green and red lights as it flys back to base/to refuel, just though i would add some clarity to these experiances

that was rather imature, im only voicing my opinion, just to clarify further if you watch this video and search for others like it, its shows exactly what there describing up untill the point you see on video its a helicopter, p.s the emergancy police helictoper has a silent mode for anyone thinking they hear no noise when they see the light, plus its proberly a mile away or more when they see it.
please refrain from childish remarks DMC is my initials.

Message WHILE TRAVELLING HOME AT APROXI 20.45 PM ON FRI 4/12/09. MY SISTER AND I SAW A VERY BRIGHT ORANGE BALL TRAVELLING DUE NORTH, UNDER THE CLOUD LINE AT MALTBY, SOUTH YORKSHIRE, THE OBJECT WAS TOO FAST FOR A CHINESE LANTERN AND AS IT PASSED OVER IT APPEARED TO DIVE DOWN TOWARDS THE GROUND. A FEW OTHERS IN THE VILLAGE ALSO SAW IT.

Location of Sighting: Halifax, Yorkshire
Date of Sighting: 09 / December / 2009
Time: 16:45
Witness Name: David Sowerbutts
Witness Statement: About 16:45 local time I arrived home (dark by then) and looked up and saw
an object somewhere between 10,000 to 20,000ft up moving from what appeared
due west in an easterly direction at a leisurely pace.
I would guess the size at that height at about that of a large SUV, the
shape was indistinct, it appeared to be glowing as if on fire and some small
“cinders” were occasionally dropping from it whilst in was travelling. It
took about 10 minutes to travel from where I saw it appearing on my left to
when it disappeared from sight on my right.

Location of Sighting: Bristol
Date of Sighting: 1/11/2009
Time: 23:00 approx
Witness Name: T.George & J.McFadden
Witness Statement: I was the garden of my house, in Brislington, on 1/11/09, when I saw a very bright orange light in the sky. It was unlike any plane or helicopter illumination, and both pass over frequently so I am used to seeing these.
It was approx. 11pm, the sky was quite dark, very little moonlight, and light sparse clouds so a clear view.
It was clearly brighter than any plane would be, and was much higher than the cloud level. It was a constant orange brightness, no flashes that would indicate a plane.
At first it moved at a constant speed in a southerly direction.
It caught my attention first due to its extreme brightness. It was as bright as a streetlight might be if it were a few hundred meters away, but this was at airplane altitude, a long way above the scattered thin clouds.
At first it appeared to have a ballooning illumination around like (as if light was refracting to make a halo effect) but as it travelled behind some thin cloud, it just left the bright spot of orange light visible, so not sure whether the halo was a trick of the light/atmosphere.
It travelled at a constant speed for a while, but once it was mid way across the sky, it seemed to halt.
Thats when i called my girlfriend outsite. By the time she arrived, the light was zigzagging, first left, then to the right, maybe 3 or 4 times, each time they were short, constant movements, and the turns appeared to be immediate.
It then stopped, and started to move slowly to the right, but also dimming rapidly, as if travelling away from my point of view. Eventually, maybe 20s later, it was no longer visible.
There was no sound. Even a plane at high altitude is audible in our garden when it’s passing overhead, and helicopters definately are.
I have no idea what it could be.
Certainly it was much brighter than any star, planet, or sattelite, and brighter than a plane at high altitude. And being street light orange is a new one on me for anything in the sky. It was still clearly visible when behind the thin clouds.
The only plausable explanation we could think was, day after halloween and close to bonfire night, could it have been one of those balloon lanterns?
I’d like to say yes, but would one be so bright at such a high altitude?
Would it move at a constant rate, then stop, and move in a zig zag like pattern in fairly straight stop/start directional movement. I would imagine changing winds to be more gradual with curved movement.
anyone else seen anything like this over Bristol, especially around the same week??
This is the first time i have ever seen anything i couldnt explain in the sky, and that clearly wasnt freak weather orientated (it was calm weather).

Location of Sighting: north Widnes
Date of Sighting: 10.12.09
Time: 00.25
Witness Name: Jean Finney
Witness Statement: Saw a large orange light from conservatory window, and thinking it was like the one I saw a few days earlier in the week, I walked into the garden to hear possible helicopter noise. Silence. Then I noticed there were two, a short distance apart. I could see a large moving orange flame in each which appeared to light up a circular area around it. The two drifted across my house. Made me think of a hot air balloon, or an enormous lantern. I went to the front of my house, and saw there were three in all, either gaining height or already very high, as I could see them for a long time above the roof of the house opposite. their movement was almost in a straight line from west to east.

last night 09/12/09 i was walkin down ulsterville avenue around 7.45pm and seen 2 weird lights in the sky, they were movin at the same speed in the same direction and my mum who was with me also seen this. The 1st light disappeared into the sky while the 2nd was still movin and a 3rd appeared and seemed to be comin over the mountain from the directation of the airport, these lights kept disappearin into the same point in the sky and another appeared from the mountain, in total i witnessed 6 objects 1 of which i recorded on my phone tho not very clearly. Within approximately 40mins of seein these things a helicaptor was in the sky circlin over belfast while a black military helicoptor hovered in 1 place……….. Can any1 explain as i’ve spoke to few people who also witnessed these things
December 12th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I saw a large orange flame-like object travelling across the sky above South Manchester tonight at about 5:15. Initially I thought it was an aeroplane with an engine on fire, but the light continued. The object appeared to be travelling at a constant speed and then seemed to rise. I lost sight of it as I was driving and when I turned again it was gone. This was definitely not a Chinese lantern. It was travelling fast (aeroplane speed) and in a straight line. Does anyone have any ideas?

12th December 2009 in Darwen, I was outside at 2200hrs and observed 2 orange lights in the sky, moving at a constant speed in a North Westerly direction, they appeared to be low in the sky but there were no anti collision lights or sound from the crafts, followed approx. 2 minutes later by a further 2 craft, however, these craft split up and the lead craft followed the first 2 and the second craft veered off in a westerly direction (towards Darwen tower ish)
It was a cold and clear night (could see all the stars) and the craft lights disappeared.
Did anyone else in the area see these lights?
December 13th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
First, let me explain. There are no “BLACK” military helicopters in Northern Ireland, never mind Belfast.
There is however two police helicopters both are painted in a black and yellow livery and clearly marked police.
So nothing clandestine here!
Anyway, I have on two separate occasions in the past month, observed a single orange light travelling in the same trajectory, similar speed and height and always silent, across the night sky in Lisburn City.
It is definitely not a helicopter or any type of aircraft and no aircraft were in the area at the time.
I have no explanation as to what these were.

Arundel west sussex about 6pm
orange flame like object in sky travelling at about 12-15 hundred feet and no faster than 150mph (my friend an aeroplane fanatic estimated this on his vast experience of observing flight)
travelled in a straight line until out of sight towards the south coast just west of littlehampton
did not appear to be connected to a solid body and made no sound

Similar sighting to Julia only this was in Bognor Regis on the 12th Dec at 21:41.
3 objects which looked like orange flames travelling as Julia has described, one after another from north to south.
December 14th, 2009 at 2:44 am
I saw a bright orange light in the sky moving just like a plane on fire. A flaming piece fell from the flaming object and fell to the earth. The orange ball I saw originally went out after about 1 minute.
December 14th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
I too saw these orange orbs on saturday night, at approx 23.45 PM. Was walking home from the bus stop in didsbury when i noticed one orange light (not an aircraft, as no beacon lights present) appear from behind a house roof. Approx 2 mins later, an identical light followed it at a set distance with the same speed. They passed, without noise, from NE to SW, which is when I lost sight of them behind the houses on the opposite side of the street.
December 19th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
I have a appology to make, i left i sighting report on here from chesterfield 1st december saying it could not have been a helicopter.I have seen again this orange light tonight and me and my girlfriend stood in our back garden and watched it move in a strange manner for about 3 minutes both saying what the hell is that before the orange light went out and we could see the flashing lights from the rotor blades of a police helicopter, there was no noise untill it passed overhead and it was obviouse it was a helicopter.I was absolutly convinced it was a ufo a first, now i feel a bit of a plank. But can see how many sightings could be confused.

But i’m not so sure of that though.. First i thoguht it was a plane or something, but i’m sure it wasen’t. Then i thought it mabyee was a falling star or something – like a supernova. Anybody else who saw it? this is some scary shit

Walking home at around 9pm last night (21/12/2009), I saw five bright orange lights moving across the sky above Whalley Range, Manchester, one at a time, moving quite slowly, then disappearing upwards into the sky. They looked like they were on fire, very bright. I can’t think of any decent explanation as to what they were.
December 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 am
A large “fireball” was seen travelling slowly across the sky over Telford, UK. On the night of 21/12/2009…. Not a chinese lantern as it was atleast 5times brighter then the searchlight of a helecopter! It was being followed by 3 other objects of similar size, moving in a very large formation… the objects seemed to have been followed by many aircraft…. Many people say chinese lantern but I say 110% not because this was incredibly bright, and much higher in the sky, many say a meteor as we have had a shower recently, good BUT reports of this object being seen all across the county and surrounding countys from between 6pm and 10.30pm…. would have been the longest comet coming to earth, and if it WAS a comet coming to earth, it would have left one heck of a smash somewhere because this thing was HUGE, like seriously.
What I find strange is the lack of news coverage or media about it, if it was a comet, or plane on fire.. I’m sure we would have heard about it now… and I am an experienced, mature man, I’m not a dunce and I can tell you this, I was NOT one of these paper lanterns people talk about, this looked more like a jetliner on fire, thats how big this thing was.
December 23rd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Have to report this time is 20:40 hours 22nd December 2009. I just saw something really bizarre in the night sky over Blackley in North Manchester.heading toward the Middleton, Oldham area I think.
It was a bright orange elongated cross shape moving at a teriffic speed. It was either orange or the whole thing was on fire. I have heard no sound of a crash. It was moving so fast. This is genuinely what I saw and NOT a hoax. I did’nt have batteries in my camera. It was moving so fast anyway by the time i had my camera it would have been out of view.
I wonder if anyone saw this or could offer an explanation. I don’t drink alcohol nor use drugs except prescribed ones which I took first thing this morning.
December 23rd, 2009 at 11:58 pm
at approx. 20:00 hrs tonight i saw 6 bright , orange lights in the sky. I was travelling towards bradford on the 650 and the lights were on my left hand side, after the junction 27retail park buildings. They seemed to be stationary and very far apart. They just hit my as very strange when i first saw them. they were in the same position as i turned left down whitehall road , then they simply dissapeared. Wish id have pulled over on the 650 for a better look.
December 25th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
25th December (Christmas Day) at around 6:50pm i saw a very big fireball looking object shoot across the sky then stop. It was shortly followed by 4 of the exact same objects. They all stopped in the distance and then disappeared.
These are definately not planes, i could see planes in the sky at the time and they looked nothing alike. Completely different.
And how can planes follow eachother so close and stop?
I could not make out the shape because the light was too bright, a red-orange colour light, similar to fire.
This was in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.
December 25th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
I saw 2 orange lights flying over my garden in Witham, Essex, just before midnight on Christmas Eve 2009. They were silent but were moving at speed in a straight line one behind the other. The second light started flickering and gradually just disappeared before my eye. The first one kept moving but I lost sight as it flew over neighbours houses. I wondered if it might be chinese lanterns but they were moving so quickly and in such a straight line it would be impossible for lanterns to do that. Did anyone else see this. I never knew there had been so many sightings before in the UK until I just googled it.

at approx 22:45 hrs i saw 1 bright orange light in the sky above the Bathgate hills. It looked like a plane on fire on the decent, then it stopped and hovered,to the right about a mile apart another orange light seen. The 2 objects hovered for approx 3 mins then the right hand side object moved upwards at speed then disappeared. The left hand side object then moved off at speed and also disappeared..no trail and no noise.very strange.

Mansfield – Nottinghamshire
Christmas Day around 7:30pm.
Me and my family saw four orange lights travelling due north/north east. There were two very close together, with one a short distance behind. The fourth followed a short time later. They were all travelling in the same direction.
They were moving far too quickly and steadily to be something like Chinese lanterns as suggested on this site.
They were moving at a steady speed like an aircraft.
There was no sound from them at all.
They were too low for planes (at least the ones we usually get round here) without us being able to hear them. If they were helicopters we would have been able to hear them at that height as well.
If it wasn’t for the “no sound” issue I would say aircraft, but from the speed and the height they appeared to be at we should have been able to hear something if it was one of the usual planes etc.
Came online this morning to see if I could find out what they were and found this site.
December 26th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
At around 11.30pm last night my family and I all witnessed 3 orange lights moving extremely fast across the night sky. I managed to get one of them on my camera and it really is amazing. Afetr initially finding my focus i zoomed in on the object and it was literally changing shape in front of my eyes from a blurry orange sgape to a luminescent perfect orange circle then back again!! my dad pointed out later when watching the footage over again that due to the trees etc in the film a probable calculation of speed could be made!! Did anybody else witness this? We were in the southside of Glasgow (Giffnnock) and it was xmas night.
p.s how do i post my camera footage onto here?

Location of Sighting: West Hull, East Yorkshire
Date of Sighting: 26th dec 2009
Time: approx 6pm
Witness Name: Michelle
Witness Statement:i have also seen the same thing this evening, about half a dozen of them. just after 6pm, clear cold night, one flew over the house, with no noise at all, flying at about the same height as a helicopter, in a direct, straight flight path, but a constant bright orange glow/light like a flare and totally silent, flew over the houses and disappeared from view. This was followed by 3 more a minute or so later in an almost a backwards L shape pattern, but spaced well apart and then another single one a few minutes later. Anyone got any ideas? I’ve asked my father who has alot of knowledge of aircraft, but he’s not got an explanation either!!!! I am aware of helicopters having a ‘silent’ flight mode and also the search lights on them, but definitely don’t have half a dozen police helicopters in the west hull area and it’s definitely not a helicopter in my book! I’m sceptical, but since seeing what i’ve seen this evening, am definitely more open minded!
December 26th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
At approx 9pm on Dec 26th I saw a bright orange light climb into the sky above the Ridgeway (near Didcot in Oxon). It hung in the sky for a minute or two, then moved eastwards quickly. It was a very bright orange (not red or yellow). It made no sound that I could hear.
Stone cold sober.
My wife witnessed this as well.
BTW I mentioned this to some people on another website and 2 out of the 3 had also seen something similar tonight! One lives in Derbyshire and the other lives in Kent.
December 26th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Was just having a cigarette outside (approx 23.40), and saw a large orange ball of light traveling at high speed East to North in South Norfolk, perfectly clear and large sky as in the country, watched it for roughly 5 seconds desperately trying to work out what it was, no flashing navigation lights ran in to get my mum who saw it, then ran in to get my dad, mum said it had gone behind the house, so we went round the back to see it but it had gone. Very much doubt it was a Chinese lantern due to the speed it was traveling at and the brightness… Surely if it was a helicopter it couldn’t have just disappeared or turned off all it lights? Anyone else seen it? Would love to hear an explanation…
December 27th, 2009 at 2:53 am
December 25th 2009 5.15pm Stoke Golding/Dadlington area Leicestershire with clear skies. Whilst travelling home by car,my wife and I saw 3 orange lights as described by other people moving towards us from the South in a ‘V’ formation. At first we thought they were microlights, as we have several flying around regularly, but they didn’t have anti-collision lights on but just displayed an orange flickering flame. My wife then offered them to be hot air balloons but they were travelling much too fast for either of these. An estimate of 150 m.p.h. was previously submitted and that would be the approximate speed we would suggest. We pulled over and wound down the window to ensure it wasn’t some peculiar series of reflections within the car and to listen for any noise and found there wasn’t any. The lead light then turned East and the other two immediately followed suit staying at the same height and distance throughout the manouvre. I would suggest they were flying at about 1000 feet at all times. I am ex-RAF and used to observing aircraft at night in all kinds of light and weather conditions but have not seen anything like these. People may also comment that we live near the flightpath of East Midlands Airport and the RAF’s low fly zone but once again we have regular aircraft overhead but nothing which would appear the same as these silent objects.
December 27th, 2009 at 10:08 am
At about 11.30pm on 25th December, we saw a single bright orange light with a kind of faint blue inner-light, fly fairly quickly in a straight line over Bentley Heath, Solihull heading towards Knowle. It was completely silent. And it was also seen by the ultimate UFO sceptic, my wife! I got a photo, but because it took me a couple of seconds to turn the flash off, it wasn’t directly overhead and all I got was a small orange pin-prick of a light on a black background.

I received a text today that was sent to me at about 3am this morning from a friend who saw 3 orange lights in a triangle form and my daughter and her BF told me 2 nights ago they saw a single orange light moving slowly across the sky then disappeared. I personally did not see either…I wish I had, but I know my friend and my daughter and neither is not fanciful in telling untruths. I have heard several people speak of the orange lights in the sky. We live in Arbroath, Scotland.

We live north Hampshire and at 8.15pm tonight my wife and I watched a bright orange glowing light move slowly west and then turned northe east before goingout of sight. There was no noise and the orange glow was very bright and constant. Would be helpful to know if chinese lanterns behave this way or were in this area tonight.

Hi, I am also in Southside of Glasgow near Giffnock and saw the same on Christmas night. It was only 1 orange ball we could see though, I thought it was a plane on fire at first and was really freaked out, have it on video just moving across the sky until it went out of sight
December 28th, 2009 at 12:43 am
i saw 7 to 10 extremely bright orange lights follow each other through the sky in Dundee, systematically following the exact same path. the leading one stopped and didn’t move for five seconds before getting smaller and disappearing as if moving upwards. the other ones did the same thing, stopping and disappearing at exactly the same point. they looked intense in terms of colour and energy. these were no chinese lanterns!!
i need a rational explanation!!!!!!!!!

We live in Dublin. At 8.09pm December 27th I called my brother to tell him to look out into the sky. Low in Southern sky moving west to east were approx. 5 bright orange lights moving at different speeds and different trajectories, so could not have been meteors. One object appeared to catch up with the other. Unfortunately I lost sight of them behind some houses. Were very far away but definitely as bright as the European Space Station, however bright orange, firelike in colour.

I have had many an experience! it is easy to dismiss these lights as chinese lanterns (and im not denying that some are) but when have you seen chinese lanterns move into the wind. at speed, change direction or manouvere like a fish in a tank, stop completely still..?

My husband, daughter and I saw 2 red lights flying at speed towards us at aprox 730pm on 25th Dec as we drove towards Knowle, Solihull. West Mids.
They did not flash and looked like 2 red stars. We assumed they were on the wing tips of a plane until one separated from the other. We stopped our car and stuck our heads out the window. They both whizzed right over us but made no sound and disappeared into a cloud. We could clearly see that they weren’t attached to any plane etc

My sisters and I all saw a bright orange fire like light in the sky on Christmas night at about 6pm. it was quite low down but disappeared after a few minutes.

Faversham,Kent,18.00hrs 28th December 2009
Just put our bin out when I noticed, travelling at speed a bright reddish orange flame like ball in the sky travelling east to west. Sky is clear with stars visible and other commercial aircraft travelling at a higher altitude. Also a very still night. No apparent sound once it had past me on the ground. At 1st I thought it was just a flare or something. I called my wife and children and my eldest daughter told me she saw the same thing Christmas eve travelling towards Canterbury (east) at about 17.45. The object continued towards Sittingbourne maintaining height and brightness.

Christmas Day night – 25th December 2009 – Approx 6pm – Chesterfield.
We had just pulled up outside our home after Christmas day at mums. There were two bright orange lights in the sky, not moving at all, quite high, but under cloud line. One of the lights moved round and under the other, and again, came to a stop, then the right one suddenly dissapeared to a pin prick, while the other remained, still, after about 30sec to a min, it too vanished in the same manner. There was no noise, so not helicopter. The only other explanation my Husband and I can come up with is laterns, but they would move in the wind? Did we see something? Strange they should be all over the country, ive never heard of anyone setting off lanterns round Christmas. Never know!
December 30th, 2009 at 12:41 am
At about midnight the 27th of December in Caterham Surrey, we both saw one orange light very high in the sky travel at a really high speed, it slowed down almost to a stop then journeyed into the distance. About 5 minutes later another light followed in exactly the same path as the previous one. These things are nothing I can explain…

dec 25th 2008 and 2009. approx 20:00h on both occasions. I saw an orange light to the south side of bathgate, travelling not rapidly from west to east. Wasnt much more than 1000ft up and looked like an aircraft on final approach for edinburgh with an engine on fire. Then it turned, headed north and climbed. It was out of sight in about 10 seconds after it started climbing. This year even captured video of it on my phone just as it was climbing. but its poor quality and only a dot !! Next chrimbo i’ll be watching the skys above bathgate with a decent video camera.

I saw an orange light on 23rd December 2009 at Sittingbourne, Kent. It turned out to be a massive house fire. Neither UFO or Chinese lantern.

New Years Eve 2010
As family were leaving after New Years celebrations we all noticed very bright lights moving in the sky which looked like fireballs going through the sky there must have been about 8 or 9 of them we couldnt believe what we were looking at but also couldnt work out what it was – very strange so glad other people had noticed it also (i wonder!)

Above Sighting in Heald Green
January 1st, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Location of Sighting: Gloucestershire
Date of Sighting: 1/1/10
Time: 5:25pm
Witness Name: Kevin
Witness Statement: Taking the dog for a walk and noticed a large Orange light in the sky moving North coming from Wales. My initial thgouth was “what a large light moving quickly in the sky, especially as it doesn’t have any other lights as a plane would”. The light was also constant…no flashing whatsoever. Then noticed that there was a 2nd Orange light following the same flight path…weird. But then the 3rd appeared from behind the cloud line. All 3 were following each other…exactly. The 3rd light was also exactly the same difference behind the 2nd as the 2nd was behind the 1st. took a picture of one of them with my phone…not great quality though. I carried on walking and then heard a commercial jet plane overhead which was flying much higher than the orange lights. I then realised that I could hear the Jet plane but there was no sound at all from the Orange lights as they flew across the sky…?

Saw one orange glowing light very early this morning (1.20am) similar height and size as Police heli but no sound, just hovered for a few minutes then backed away at speed. Seriously freaked me out, do all these sightings mean something??????
January 3rd, 2010 at 4:48 pm
my whole family on new years eve 2009 approx. 20past midnight saw a large orange bright light in the sky moving at a steady pace it moved out of our view but then five minutes later was visible from the other side of house ut this time another was following it quit close and they were very consistent to be chinese laterns lol there was no noice at all for helicopters they moved right over the house and appeared that we should have seen them again at the other side but they ahd both completely gone…. should say they did appear to have a little trailing light to like a spark this was not a beam of light like a helicopter it honestly looked like it was on fire
January 4th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
Just seen it again form the 2nd time approx 19:15 over Leicestershire. This is nothing like you can explain. Huge flame like object with no sound going in a perfect stright ling and same height. This is not a lantern, chopper or plane. Too many people have seen this al over the uk something is looking at us.

My nieces friend also told me that her brothr had seen these orange lights in the sky all over christmas and was asking people on face book if anyone else had seens them.

Flying, north to south, over the flight path of runway 05 @ manchester international airport. Just to the north of Knustsford, Cheshire. From around 2245 till 2300. Two, then 1, then two groups of two then 1 singular. Orange glow, not a light. No standard aviation lights. No sound. Very low, climbing. Changing speed. All tracking roughly the same direction..then vanishing…Either light off or something…as the brightness of the light would have been visible for further, if that makes sense. The strangest thing for me was that as they passed *over head*, they made *no* sound. No rotor. No engine. No hum. Nothing. Still night. Temp -2 deg c at Manchester airport. No wind. Ceiling unlimited. Light snow covering in patches.

Christmas Day (6.30-7.00pm)2009. North Lanarkshire, Central Scotland. Fiance was out in the back garden and noticed what he thought was a plane on fire travelling across the sky. He quickly grabbed the camcorder and filmed a few minutes of this orange ball of fire flying in the same direction a plane would if passing over our house in Lanarkshire en route to Glasgow airport. No noise or erratic flying. Looked a bit like a hot air balloon but completely glowing orange and flying swiftly with no interference or disintegration (would have been falling debris if on fire ) Completely baffled us and my 60 year old father who stated that he had never seen anything like it in his lifetime. Would upload footage if possible. Watched it for over 15 mins in total. Thought I would search online for any similar sightings and found this site.

@Sharon. If you could, why not put the footage on Youtube. Then post a link here? Would be good to see it. Peace.

Location of Sighting: Heaton – Newcastle
Date of Sighting: 15/02/2010
Time: Approx 8.15pm
Witness Name: Sid
Witness Statement: I was leaving my house in to go to the shops when I heard a group of young people shouting to someone to look in the sky. naturally I immediately glanced up and saw 3 red/orange intense circle lights spaced out in a perfect equilateral triangle. I passed round the corner of the road and glanced up again down the back street – this time there was only 2 of the 3 lights present. After leaving the shop I looked again and only one of the lights was present. When I got home I went straight out to the back yard, to see if I could still see them and show the people in my house. By this time they had all vanished. I was very confused about what I saw.
Did anyone else see this in the Newcastle?
April 16th, 2010 at 3:10 am
Location: Leicester; Date: 15/04/2010; Time: 8.30-9.00pm
Was in the garden when I saw a bright orange light above. Immediately did not think it was a plane. I have seen planes fly over before and they make noise and you can usually see their flickering red/blue lights. This object was completely silent and just of bright orange colour. I did think that if it was a plane then it was on fire and would crash somewhere – but there was no reportings of a crash. However, due to the Iceland volanic eruption I’m sure all flights over British airspace were cancelled – so it could not of been a plane. I continued to look at it for 2/3 minutes before it seemed to go a pale shade of orange then dissappearing altogther. I found this very strange.

Willerby , East Yorkshire; 17/4/2010; Time 20:30pm
I was in my sitting room with husband and brother -in-law when we saw 2 orange circular shapes in the sky out of the window. We went outside to look at them and they were moving South to North and seemed to be losing height very slowly. the light was quite bright and then all of a sudden they disappeared. We must have watched them for at least 5 mins before they were no longer visible. At first we wondered if it was anything to do with the volcanic ash erruption but we saw nothing else that evening. Very strange!!!
April 18th, 2010 at 8:40 am
Location: Braintree, Essex
Time: 10:30 (ish)
Saw a bright orange light out of my lounge window and it looked a bit like a small fireball.
It was moving about the same speed as planes that normally fly over this way but the strange colour, and the fact that flights have been cancelled, made me go outside and look – my first thought was that a plane had a flaming engine.
Was completely silent and the sky was completely clear.
It travelled SW for a few minutes then stopped. Watched it stationary for about 5 minutes then it faded (still stationary) and dissappeared completely.

saturday evening 24/4/2010)around 10pm. Saw 2 orange ball shapes in the sky outside my home in maltby travelling in a westerly direction. Called my husband to see them and we saw 9 more all following the same line. I thought they may have been chinese lanterns till my husband pointed out that the wind was coming from south to north. They were totally silent. Any explanations please?
July 17th, 2010 at 11:07 pm
Location: Chepstow, Newport
Date & Time: Saturday 17.08.2010 11.50pm-12.00am
I was in my study at around 11.50pm, and noticed 2 orange dots travelling in the sky, the same speed as a plane, but there were no flashing lights, and no sound.
I stepped outside and noticed that there were about 4 more following the other two balls of orange light. I tried to take a picture but my camera would not focus, it was not a cloudy night, but the dots soon disappeared. Roughly 10 minutes later I noticed another dot, though it was smaller and the light of it was becoming brighter and dimmer on and off, though not flashing, travelling in the same direction as the others had.
