Orange Light Sightings-December 2009-Volume 2
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple red and orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area. Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability “Chinese Lantern” sightings based on the information provided.Any such sightings received through the “Submit Sighting Form” will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it’s county area. The “Orange Light Sightings” are published by month in Volumes of about 40 eye witness accounts.

Witness Statement: orande light very high at first i presumed it was an aircraft on aproach to manchester airport then two orange bits dropped of it as if it was breaking up it then seemen to change direction and carry on across the sky it was an intense orange no flickering i have seen chinese lanterns in myopinion it was the size of an aircraft as you see it coming in to land and moving far to fast for a lantern and as i said earlier the only thing that made me change that view was when we seen the two bits drop off it i was thinnking that it could possibly have been a meteor passing through the atmosphere.

Faversham,Kent,18.00hrs 28th December 2009
Just put our bin out when I noticed, travelling at speed a bright reddish orange flame like ball in the sky travelling east to west. Sky is clear with stars visible and other commercial aircraft travelling at a higher altitude. Also a very still night. No apparent sound once it had past me on the ground. At 1st I thought it was just a flare or something. I called my wife and children and my eldest daughter told me she saw the same thing Christmas eve travelling towards Canterbury (east) at about 17.45. The object continued towards Sittingbourne maintaining height and brightness

Over the last few months Oct/Nov/dec 09 both myself and a neighbour have seen these orange orbs and can say quite confidently that they are not Chinese lanterns. We both have military backgrounds. What we have witnessed are far larger and appear to be under controlled flight and have been seen in ones and two’s and flights of over 14+.. These orbs have increased in sightings over the last two weeks.

On Thurs 31st Dec 2009 (New Year’s Eve) about 9pm my wife and I were walking to a friends house in Portstewart (Co.L’Derry, north coast of Northern Ireland) when we saw a bright orange ball in the sky. May I point out, we hadn’t begun to take any alcohol at that time! At first I thought it was someone letting off a firework and said to my wife “Look at that”. As we watched, we saw this orange ball climb higher but the strange thing is there was NO SOUND WHATSOEVER. I was expecting it to explode, like a firework, but it didn’t. It seemed to change direction (by that I mean, level off) and then fly over our heads in a northerly direction and disappeared INTO the clouds – NOT over the clouds. I am very accustomed to watching all sorts of aircraft take off, land and manoeuvre, as I work at Belfast International airport. What I saw I can’t explain. A hobby of mine is astronomy. What I saw could not be mistaken for a meteorite etc (there was no ‘tail’) nor a satellite, or even the ISS (International Space Station) – I have watched the ISS fly overhead several times, as have I also watched satellites zoom by. What we saw was something which was no more than 3000 to 4000 feet AGL (above ground level). It was simply a silent, bright orange ball and now that I have searched the internet and found that others in Northern Ireland ad all over the UK have also seen it on New Year’s Eve, as well as several times over many months, I am more convinced that what we saw was very ‘unusual’ indeed.
January 2nd, 2010 at 10:33 pm
i was watching the fireworks from the window on New year’s eve 2009. at 0.30 new years day i saw 3 orange things moving in the sky westerly over Clacton-on-sea.Thinking they were helicopters,i watched, they travelled some distance apart, then turned and circled, then flew out to sea.there was no noise, and they stay about the same height. Also,on looking easterly here were another 2, flying out towards the sea, over holland-frinton-on-sea area.they dissappeard into cloud. i took some photos, and on close inspection, they are round or oval shapes,no flasing lights,as on planes etc. no noise. Iam sure they were not lanterns.

December 31/New Years Day 12.10
I live just south of Mike in Sutton Coldfield. Saw these orange lights in groups of four or five moving steadily west/south west.
No planes around, the objects carried no port or starboard lights.
Fascinating. I took a photo which at least proves I wasn’t hallucinating.
January 10th, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Last Sunday (3rd Jan) Clear night at about 19:20 I saw two orange lights over Bury St Edmunds, high up following same course. No noise, then disappeared.
Tonight two but much closer, first one very low and as it went past in the distance 300 meters I could clearly make out a large dark shape. The second was much higher in altitude and moving faster – disappeared into cloud.
January 10th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
I live in between Sutton Coldfield and Erdington and have seen many of these “orange lights”, they are without a doubt chinese lanterns, i have had the binoculars on them each time..they do flicker sometimes as they have a flame inside and are quite large so can be seen very easily. I did however for the first time in my life see on January 9th around 8pm a very large oblong object in the sky over towards Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield moving very slowly downwards with small white lights along its length and two red lights that glowed on and off ( not like aircraft lights that flash intermitent), I live under the flight path of Birmingham Airport so i know what planes look/act like, and unfortunately i live in a rough area so get to see the old police helicopter out often and am aware of all the lights they can produce (search light, stealth mode, normal lights etc..) this was very strange… i’m surprised nobody else has said anything.. maybe they will?
January 13th, 2010 at 6:50 pm
On 25/12/09 & 31/12/09 in the Portrush area N.I we saw orange flame like lights they could’nt have been chinese lanterns because there was 2 drifting beside each other. There was no noise from these objects & they soon disappeared. We saw 1 on 25/12/09 & 3 on 31/12/09.

25.12.09 milton, north glasgow east to west at just before 6 im walking the dog when i see th first one of the night it was low enough to make out it was not a paper lantern, put a golf ball out at arms lenghs thats how low it seemed the light wasn,t fickering or duller round the edges like lanterns it was like a ball of fire it rolled backward but still going forward i could see wot looked lke little balls on it forming a circle on one side of it, it then went right and higher stopped at the edge of milton above the fields then a minute later it was gone i seen 6 more over the next 2 hours coming from the east and going straight to werethe first disapeared i know i missed more as i was in and out the house ooking for a camara

Hi
my sister rang me tonight to tell me that she and her husband saw two fast moving orange lights travelling south east over South Shields, These things were high up flew apart and made no noise whatsoever. What is curious is that the husband is a trained first mate who has worked on ships for years for BP etc and has no interest in these things whatsoever and jibes me when we talk about sightings. He says there was no logical explanation for the objects in that they were quite a long way apart, moved very quickly and didn’t have the normal attributes of satellites, or engines etc. My sister was actually quite excited about it and happy for me to contact you. She said they were moving in tandem sort of down the coast. I suggested lanterns but the speed seemed to throw that off, and I’d be interested to see if there were any other sightings in the area. Pretty sure my brother and law would have just scoffed or explained it off as whatever.
As a coda to that my interest in such things started ages ago. When I was about 14 yrs old, around 1974 , me and a couple of friends saw a triangular formation of star lights come together over the north sea off the coast of South Shields. It has really stuck with me. There was one star to start with then a movement of what looked like a snooker rack of stars come together over the sea. They then moved away from each other and gradually disappeared. It was just daft really, can’t remember what time of year but about nine at night viewing over towards trow rock and what appeared to be very high up.
Anyway if anyone saw the lights over Shields tonight I’d be interested to hear.
Yours truly,
Richard

I was standing in my sisters garden at about 7pmish on the 30/01/2010 when I noticed what I thought was an orange star, I know Mars can be seen so I just assumed it was that.
A few minutes later this orange star trebled in size, started to glow and darted about in different directions. I called my sister and she also witnessed it, we stood and watched for approx 5 mins before it completely disappeared!
We then noticed 3 tiny stars creating a triangle shape all twinkling different colours!

Watford herts around the christmas period i was taking some rubbish out to the bin and like i would usualy do look up to see what cloud cover was like it was clear and no wind when i saw a orange ball light that moved from west to east like it was on a flight path and even banked round slightly however judging by the speed it was traveling and size of the light (comparing it to an aeroplane light) it was far to close to remain silent i did have time to show my children to
i cannot get my head round the idea it would be a plane as it had no engine noise what so ever and yet it passed by so smothly if anyone has seen this in the local area i would be very interested in your witness experience

Late post as I only just found this site:
There were 2 orange lights ‘hovering’ in the sky just above the roof top. They were stationary for about 5 mins, and were diagonal to each other. We got out the car to look at them and the started moving diagonally up into the sky at a constant medium speed remaining eqi-distant from eachother. I took a photo and tried to zoom in but my camera isn’t really good enough. I also tried to video them but same issue above – it doesn’t show much. These lights weren’t flashing or anything, and there wasn’t a sound at all.

I had just pulled up in my car on Sunday night 14 March 2010, 21.00 hhrs and I saw three large bright orbs travelling across the sky (Folkestone, Kent). I got out of my car and tried to take a picture with my mobile phone but couldnt get a clear image, so I quickly phoned my daughter to look out of the window. The lights appeared to be following each other until they stopped and aligned with each other and hovered silently until the clouds engulfed them. I thought at first they were helecopters but I strongly believe now they were not as I have seen helecopters before, they always make a noise and have a flashing light. My daughter suggested that they were chinese lanterns (she only got to see the last one disappear into the clouds). I have my doubts as these orbs were travelling above clouds and against the wind and they aligned in one position, so I dont know what they were.

Orange lights over Livingston.
I heard a noise outside tonight, went out and saw a drunken group of teenagers staring at the sky. I looked and saw 2x bright orange lights, side by side moving slowly across the sky east to west moving higher until they disappeared. Myslef and my partner stood in disbelief wondering why we never go the camera, then 3 more appeared again from the east and headed west. This time we got them on camera, don`t know where to send the footage though.
Very surreal.

orange lights over wigan.
Last night looked out of my bedroom window and saw a very bright orange light, thought it was a chinese lantern, but as it started to move quickly i noticed 2 lights underneath it. The object started to move much more rapidly and high up into the air, went as high up as the stars then vanished.
due to this i decided to look out of my bedroom window again tonight, this time three orange lights were in exactly the same place, they were extremely bright and were moving around in the sky. The objects moved closer to each other and formed a triangular shape in the sky. it was quite strange because each light in turn went dimmer and eventually disappeared.
