Orange Light Sightings-December 2009-Volume 3
Each month we receive a large number of eye witness accounts of sightings of single and multiple red and orange light formations in the sky. In many cases it is evident that the most likely explanation would be Chinese Lanterns released in the local area. Due to time constraints a point has been reached where we need to decide whether to completely disregard these types of sightings or not. As a result it has been decided to set up on trial basis this dedicated section to log those eye witness accounts which are considered to be high probability “Chinese Lantern” sightings based on the information provided.Any such sightings received through the “Submit Sighting Form” will initially be posted as a comment in this section. If at a later date supporting information comes to light suggesting the sightings may not be chinese lanterns then the eye witness account will be reposted as a sighting report under it’s county area. The “Orange Light Sightings” are published by month in Volumes of about 40 eye witness accounts.

Time: Between 7.15-7.45PM
Witness Name: Evan
Witness Statement: I saw an orange ball like object in the sky when i was watching tv at first it looked like a ball of fire but it was too slow for that,i got up from my seat and stood at the window and it seemed to be dripping like molton metal from underneath it moved across the sky faster than a plane/helicopter (I live close to the flight path for Dalcross Airport).
When i saw it first i thought it was a ball of fire then i thought it was a plane with an engine fire,it came to a stop dripping like hot metal then took off again and started to get smaller and smaller.
About 7-8 mins later it appeared again simuler as it did before and disapeared, then about 4-5mins later it came back but disappeared quicker this time

Message Tonight, xmas day,I was visiting my mother who is in Ripon Hospital, north yorkshire at approx 6.30pm and as myself and my family were parking in the hospital carpark and facing south we saw first one and then spaced out in formation seven slowly moving bright orange balls of light all appearing one after the other flying towards the north east and as they reached about directly east of Ripon started to disapear into cloud. They were flying very slow and were not aircraft and I know this as I am an ex commercial pilot. About 45 minutes later we set of home for our village which is called Masham which is about 9 miles north of Ripon and when we were approaching Masham we observed a ball of orange light hovering directly over Masham but when we arrived into Masham and looked up it was gone.

Felt I had to write this.
I submitted a report on 28th November in the Lancashire area i mentioned they may be chinese lanterns but deep down felt this was not the case having not seen chinese lanterns i wasn’t sure.
I have now seen chinese lanterns and They were certainly NOT chineses lanterns what We saw that night I am 100% of that now.
They were UFO’s (unidentified Flying objects)

My Partner nand I witnessed 5 large bright orange balls following each other in a straight line equal distances apart, they came from the East and then turned 90 degrees towards the North, no sound could be heard despite it being a very still quiet, clear night and no flasing lights could be seen as usual with planes, to high and fast to be chinease latterns, we lost sight of them for a moment due to being in an alley way and when we emerged only 3 could be seen. We do live under a flight path and see/hear planes on a regular basis but this was very different

Just saw one over Basingstoke. Looking south ward. new years eve. My husband went out for a cigarette and saw a bright orange light which looked like a burning mass coming towards us high in the sky. There was no noise and it just seemed to glow then move away. It came back every few minutes for awhile.
It was very high up and really bright so it was something substantial and bright, It wasn’t a planet as it was very reddish and moved away. Never seen a lantern but think this was too big and bright. Why does no one know what these are? Some one must have found out or know in this day and age.. come on..
Almost reddish and

In Winsford Cheshire at 11:50pm came out of neighbours house and saw a bright light travelling south as it got closer I couldn’t hear any sound. Then less than a minute later more appeared all approaching from the same direction and heading south. They were approaching in different numbers upto six at a time. I called a neighbour out to watch this strange event. No noise could be heard from these “things” on this quiet frosty night. I watched them for over an hour and guessed there must have been between 75 and 100 of these objects that passed overhead at what I would guess to be close to 200 mph.

Me and my family were looking out of the window at all of the fireworks, as it had just gone midnight on the 31st. my little brother then said, there were some bright orange lights going across the sky. we all got up and saw these bright orange lights moving quite fast in a straight line across the sky. then 2 more appeared.
There had been reports in the papers this summer about Lanterns being set off. but we have seen these lights over the past week. and we are very confused as to what they are.

location old kilpatrick. I saw in the sky a ball of what looked like orange fire, it was moving to quick to be a plane and too high to be a chopper, even then i knew itwasnt either as it was silent , it swiftly moved over house, some folk have said maybe it was a lantern, but would it not be illegal for that , as it was as high as a plane, and that would surely disturb the flight path?? I hope i get an explanition for what i saw.
January 3rd, 2010 at 12:24 am

bathgate, west lothian. 6:40pm 3/1/2010
looking east from here i saw 3 objects in the sky. the moved fairly slowly to the north or east and stopped one by one. they then disappeared one by one.
they were very bright, far brighter than a plane, or helicopter, no flashing, and of a coppery red/orange colour.
as a skeptic i have no idea and can offer no explanation. even a guess!

Went out for a cigarette and me and my boyfriend noticed two orange objects go horizontally across the sky. They went extremely fast and the 2nd followed the first one around 30-40seconds afterwards.
When zooming in on my phone the first picture taken of one of them appears to have a green light at the bottom and on the second this light is at the top. They look more diamond shaped on my phone!
Very weird

January 19th, 2010 at 6:25 pm
Was lying in my bed watching tv with light out on Sunday 17th. At around 7.25pm this orange thing caught my eye, I got up to look further as it wasn’t anything I’d seen before. It was lower than a normal plane and was bright orange – I assumed it would turn so I could get a better but it never. It just went straight passed my flat from the North (Balerno), passed my top flat at EH14 3BE (Clovenstone Drive), going towards Edinburgh Castle. I looked further outwards until it faded!
I havn’t a clue what this thing was – a plane or helicopter maybe at 1st but it had no sound and was lower than a plane. Thought about a comet but it had no trail. Didn’t have much of a shape really – oval if at all.
Still wondering how Edinburgh airport never picked up it’s radar like (unless they did and just not letting on or was too low for to pick up.)
I’m very confused!
