Birkenhead, Wirral, UK-7th January 2010
Location of Sighting: Birkenhead, Wirral, UK
Date of Sighting: 7 Jan. '10
Time: 1950
Witness Name: Mark and Luke Wilmshurst
Witness Statement: My son and I were watching the beautifully clear sky from our back garden. We could see some planes around at high altitude. Then I spotted two dim white lights (the leading one slightly brighter than the following one) in tandem heading west directly above us. No sound, no flashing. The following light suddenly caught up with the first one and "danced" around it at speed. Their path then curved around and they headed north as they seemed to accelerate. The dimmer of the two lights faded until only one was visible. I am a scientist and have been interested in aviation and astronomy for many many years and have no difficulty in identifying planes, satellites, meteors and Chinese lanterns - what we saw was definitely none of these - nothing like anything I've witnessed before.

Mark:-)
I love professional witnesses like you, they can’t keep thinking we’re all paranoid then:-)
Many thanks for sharing a graphic sighting with us.
These white lights are what I see a lot of… and I have just reported on some more, so cheers:-)
Smiles

Unfortunately I did not make note of when exactly I saw this same event or atleast very very similar. It could have been that same day but approx. 1 hour earlier. I saw two separate objects/lights however they would be what I expect to be lanterns. This was in Bromborough, about 5 miles from Birkenhead, but moved toward that direction (North Westerly). Across the inbound flight path to Liverpool airport.
Aircraft did not pass by during the couple of minutes I observed them until the disappeared over the tree line and houses some distance way across a field and carpark from a local retail park.
