WITNESS STATMENT: as follows :-
I looked out of my backdoor & notised the moon was nice & clear , so i got my camera & just took a few shots , but it was too bright to capture any detail of the moon. once i had downloaded the pics onto my pc i then zoomed in & theres two “object”/ufo!/cratf or poss satelites im not sure , theres 1 just left of the moon & 1 further right near the edge of the shot. i spoke to a mate & she told me it was the same night as MARS was meant to be visable but i didnt see much unless thats what is below the moon which i thought was just glare. if anyone knows what it / they are then please mail me . one other thing is that within 1 minute of taken 2 shots these objects had vanished. the moon was to the east of herne bay . regards Paul..

Ok am not quite sure what the object is below the moon on both photos but on the second photo too the left of the moon that is possibly mars, at this time of year mars is rising in the east around 7pm ish

Hi Paul,
I just checked using “Stellarium” for the evening you took this photo and there does seem an explanation. Mars would be exactly where the “object” is to the left of the Moon and the bright star Procyon just about where the object to the right is. Mars is very bright at the moment, and the slight red/orange tint to the light on the left seems to confirm this also. There is a slight camera shake I think which had just made them look a bit of an odd “squiggle”.

The blobs which appear below the moon in both photos are lens flare.

Witness Statement: The object to the left of the moon in the 2nd shot was Mars. A neighbour and I saw it too. It was exactly where an astronomer friend of my neighbour said it would be. It was also slightly red in colour. Sorry to disapoint.
