Rothwell, Northamptonshire-5th February 2010
Location of Sighting: Rothwell, Northamptonshire
Date of Sighting: 5th Feb 2010
Time: 21:00 hrs
Witness Name: Martin Baker
Witness Statement: I would like to report a sighting of a fireball over my home in Rothwell Northamptonshire, I spotted this fireball around 21:00 hrs on the 5th Feb 2010. It was heading North but not sure how fast it was travelling I would say around 300mph as it looked as if it was travelling at the same speed as a plane would go. I tried to get video footage but by the time i got to my phone the fireball was going out of sight, managed to get a couple of seconds but it not brilliant. I told my family but didn’t think too much of it, but then when i looked on the internet to see if anyone else had seen it I came across a news article about one being spotted in Ireland.

I witnessed a star shaped bright red type meteorite travel directly over my home at approx 9.30pm on Friday evening. It was travelling at airplane type speed and was approx 15000 to 20000 feet in the air. I live in North Co. Dublin, it travelled from a south east to north west direction. There was no sound from this object. At first sight I thought it was an airplane but realised as it passed overhead there was no ‘engine’ sound at all. I am puzzled as to what this object was, there was no tail or streak just a large bright red star shaped object. Would welcome any information or reported meteorite sightings from Friday evening.

I spotted the same sort of bright red light (glow) last night (Saturday). I live on the coast in west sussex, it was travelling at speed from north to south and was fairly low. A saw a piece break off which fell straight to earth. The remainder looked as if it was going to end up in the channel! I am confused as to what this was as it was travelling almost parallel to the ground and only a few thousand feet up at most. I cannot remember the exact time but seem to remember it being around 10:30 – 11:30pm.
I would be interested to see if anyone else has seen this or if anyone has any clue as to what it was.

I saw the same on Saturday February 6th 2010, I was out walking my dogs in Earley, Reading, when I saw a large orange ball coming towards me at speed, and then it stopped and went upwards and towards the left, again there was absolutely no sound, which there would have been if it was a plane or helicopter. The time was 7pm approx.

I saw something simular i was in my back garden in East Northamptonshire when at around 2300hrs i heard a whistle noise in the sky, and i saw a bright object in the sky, it looked to me like a fire ball, it seemed to come down then level off making no sound at all going at great speed heading north, from the time it seemed to level off, it took around 40 seconds to go out of sight in the horizon, very strange.

I live in Maida Vale West London and while out on my balcony, at approximately 10.30 I noticed a large orange /red object travel in a north easterly direction. It was not travelling incredibly fast about the same speed as a passenger plane. It made a slight rumbling sound as it travelled.

My wife and I have just witnessed a fireball in the sky, above our home in Olney, Buckinghamshire. At first it was huge, a glowing orange ball and looked to be falling vertically at first, and I thought it was a plane that had caught fire and was crashing to the ground. The glow then diminished slightly and it shifted direction and headed south and became smaller and then appeared to just burn out, or maybe it was hidden by cloud. There was no accompanying sound. There were huge black storm clouds in the sky, so I’m not sure if it could have been some kind of electrical storm? I have immediately checked Google to see if there could be some explanation for it and it seems these things are quite a common spectacle. A meteorite seems to be the favourable explanation, which would explain the glow around it as I first caught sight when it could have been entering the earth’s atmosphere. I would love to hear from Anyone that may have seen it.
