Yate, Bristol-1st February 2010
Location of Sighting: Yate, Bristol
Date of Sighting: 1st Feb 2010
Time: 6.30 ish
Witness Name: Debs Turner & David Packham
Witness Statement: On our usual dog walk scanning the skies when we both saw an amber light over head.
I said it was the ISS as it was the same size and brightness, but as we watched it, it appeared to have a wobble and would make small jerks left or right. There was discussion seeing as it was so cold whether our eyes were playing tricks on us. It eventually faded just like the ISS does.
This morning I have checked the ISS times and it is not visible over Bristol until the 3rd of Feb, so it can't have been that.

My daughter and I probably saw the same light in the East from the Welsh coast approx mid evening Feb 1st 2010.
I saw it move towards that East location and called my daughter, I took a digital photo and my daughter decided it may have been Mars but its just a blob of light on the photograph in the camera, althought I have not loaded it into the computer yet, Mars was due around this time of the year Feb 1st 2010.
I wonder is the new super military site being built in St Athan near Cardiff linked to these sightings, it is to be the new International traiing site for military pilots from all over the World,

It wasn’t Mars! Mars doesn’t move and certainly doesn’t wobble!
I felt this was in orbit around the earth as it faded just as the ISS does.
This would explain that we both saw the same thing due to the high altitude. Glad someone else saw this

Location: Bristol City
Time: approx. 19:00 – 20:00hrs.
Height: approx 35 degrees.
Direction: We were facing north and the object travelled from left to right.
In response to Debs Turner & David Packham.
I have seen this twice with my housemates from our back garden. I think the first time we saw it was the 1st or second of Feb between 19:00 – 20:00hrs because we had just got back from work. This object was about 35 degrees above the northern horizon and moved from left to right, heading east. At first I though it was an aeroplane but then I realised there was only one light source and no flashing lights, the light was also much brighter and approx. 6 times larger. At first I squinted because it was slightly our of focus, a red/amber blur and I though it was my eyes. The light slowly faded but I could still see a large object. I immediately thought it was the ISS reflecting the sun, and convinced my housemate the same. We thought nothing of it until I saw it again the following week. I checked the online and realised that I was not the ISS because it passes in the morning not the evening according to the website.
I now think it must have been the space shuttle on route to fit the so call window on the world?
Does anyone have a better explanation?

Hi Declan,
glad I’m not the only one to have seen this! It wasn’t the shuttle as that was passing over the same time as the ISS in the early morning, so still open to explanation!

My partner and I also saw 4 bright orange lights in the sky Saturday 21st Feb, roughly 11:30pm. Each one followed the same path within a few seconds of each other. Then they all disappeared one at a time when they got to one part of the sky. Very odd because there were no clouds in the sky that night and there was no noise. Few seconds later I heard a big aeroplane in the sky flying above my house (flight path is above my house). Anyone have any explanations?? The brightly coloured orange lights were bigger than aeroplanes in the sky.

Have you thought these may be chinese fire lanterns?
We have both seen them and released them ourselves and they appear as orange lights floating in the sky… they generally follow the wind or currents so various launches all group and follow the same path. Also they are of limited fuel so burn out thus dimming and then vanishing… ?? Just a thought?

Well last night around 10pm in Yate, I witnessed two of these orange lights but they weren’t floating, they were moving swiftly towards the Bristol direction. This was followed by another three. I called a friend to come and witness this and from the distance there were two more followed by a singular one!! They were fairly close together, no noise, no flashing lights so it wasn’t aircraft or helicopters …. weird!

I also saw these lights. I counted 6 from when i noticed them, all moving moving on the same path or close to it but not equally spaced out. Silent and bright solid orange, moving toward the city direction. Any ideas? These were not lanterns.
