Location of Sighting: A1 at Catterick, yorkshire
Date of Sighting: Approx April 1967
Time: Approx 15.00
Witness Name: David Marriott
Witness Statement:Seeing your submission about lights at Scotch Corner reminds me of an incident which has haunted me since my youth. I would have been about nineteen at the time. It was a bright and unseasonably warm day with not a cloud in the sky. I was with my father who was driving us north on the A1. We were accompanied by an American hitch-hiker we had picked up along the way. As we were passing Catterick camp to the east (right) of us we noticed an inexplicable patch of dense mist in the field to our left. It was extremely well defined as opposed to fading away at the edges. This was strange and noteworthy in itself, but what made it stranger still was a very large and extremely bright pulsing orange glow coming from the core of the mist patch. It was like nothing I had ever seen before or have since. I remember the American saying ” I never expected to come all this way to see a UFO” ! Weird.
