Bristol, Eastville-15th August 2012
Location of Sighting: Bristol, Eastville
Date of Sighting: 15/08/2012
Time: 22:29
Witness Name: Simon Davies
Witness Statement: Was outside in my garden looked up and seen a bright white light traveling from a westerly to easterly direction, it did not have any under lights like a plane; didn’t flicker like a lantern and it seemed to be flying at a fairly high altitude at a steady pace, it did not make any sound? It was in view for around 3-4mins. To note, while the light was still visible a small jet passenger plane flew in the same direction at a much lower attitude, I thought this was strange due to the proximity of both objects, living under a flight path you tend to notice that there is usually a greater gap between aircraft.
Anyone else see this?

Suffolk – 12th August. Whilst having a look out for the Perseids Meteorites, saw exactly the same thing as the Somerset sighting of the 15th August. It was similar in size to the ISS but much slower and on a different trajectory. Like the other sighting, watched it for a few minutes. No other lights, just one bright light – also westerly to easterly direction. No sound or any other lights around it.

i also saw that light and i checked the int space space station tracker and im pretty sure thats what we saw. its pretty regular around the same time 200 odd miles up at a speed of 17000mph.

This sighting was almost certainly the International Space Station. A schedule of transits is posted at:
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/
There was a transit at just the time reported. The ISS is very bright, and its slow, steady progress across the sky is erie.

It’s amazing how any ISS sightings are mistakenly reported but then in the truest sense of the term if the observer doesn’t know what he/she is viewing then it’s a UFO and this is the sight for it.
The reports of ISS seem to be higher this year, are people taking greater notice of the night skies? 2012 conspiracy and all that.

Saw exactly the same thing as Simon. On Tuesday 14th around 10 – 11pm (not sure of EXACT time as i dont wear a watch)
West coast of Wales, VERY Bright light moving at a steady speed across the sky, from west to east at a relatively low level (or at least appeared to be, due to the brightness, which was on the front and no other lights (port or starboard warning) Sky was clear with slight gentle breeze, could not hear any noise from engines
Saw many many satellites and this was WAY closer than that and seemed to be at a passenger aircraft level or lower. Seemed very strange, hence this post!

I saw something exactly as you describe travelling West to East direction on the night of the Olympic closing ceremony – Sunday 12th August at approx 10.45 from my garden in Windsor while admiring the totally clear night and just before taking kids to bed. Living near Heathrow I’m very used to aircraft. This wasn’t like anything I’d seen before. Very bright light, no strobes, moving slow in the distance but it became apparent as it flew closer it was moving at speed. Observed as it flew slightly north of me. No sound at all. Bright light faded as it came over, as if light was on the front and I was now observing it from the underside, or back. It appeared reddish from this angle. Then suddenly all lights went out. This wasn’t due to cloud as a clear night. I suspected lights out as it must of been very near heathrow and fast approaching London. Could of been ISS but not familiar with its trajectory and never seen anything like it before (but don’t often stand in my garden at night stargazing). Immediate thought was military aircraft.

Absolutely with you on what you say about ISS. I have seen ISS and from the first time I saw it I more or less knew what it was from seeing telescope digital photos of it posted online & from the days when Mia, the USSR space station was a regular sight in the Sky. I do have to say a big “But” though as I once saw ISS rise from the west a few months ago at around 23:30 confirmed to myself via the ISS tracker that it was what I saw, then 15 minutes later I saw exactly the same thing follow the same track, with nothing online pointing me to what it was. The NASA schedule list didn’t show any supply craft for that night, or anything departing the ISS. This was well after the final Shuttle flight. Now that was strange as I couldn’t identify it. ISS certainly doesn’t take 15minutes to circumnavigate the planet!

It sounds just like the two sightings we had in Bradford on August 14th, which most definitely were NOT the ISS !

Ok, I had to google this stuff as in the last month me and my boy friend have seen 5 of these white lighs, he’s ex RAF and can vouch it’s not an aircraft he’s ever seen, I’ve seen an orange on too that sort of burnt out we where going to put it down to meteros
BUT
We saw one last friday night and it darted to the left so quick and with zero sound, it was much brighter then any saterlight we’ve seen and defo not a shooting star, it continued on the same corse then dimmed and vanished, the only reason I’m chasing this up now is because my mum just emailed me over an orange one she saw last night, discirbed much like the one I saw at the beggining of the month, If I had’nt seen one dart the way it, which did look so unatural I’m completley dumbfounded and do not believe this is a meteor shower…
Ps. I’m sorry for my poor spelling and grammer =(

Was just out in my garden looking at the sky with my brother until i seen the same thing Simon seen. An object resembling that of a star moving steadily this time from east to west which disappeared after about 20 seconds. Made no noise, had no shape 2 it and was quite far away. We stayed out in the garden and started 2 see multiple sightings after that, most sightings were moving from west to north. We also seen 2 objects flying at the same time as if they were passing eachother by, at the point just before they passed eachother 1 object lit up for a second. During this time we seen 3 shooting stars in total. Not sure what this was but it definately wasnt an aeroplane.

I have just been in my garden looking up at the clear sky and I saw a bright flash, so bright it caught my eye, I watched for a moment then it flashed again but not as bright. I kept watching and I saw another flash, the timings of these flashes were not at consistant time intervals. This was around 12:20 in a westerly direction over Bicester. The odd thing is I saw the same thing, I think it was two nights ago in the same area in the sky but I can’t recall the time but it was definatley later. Last night I also saw a slow moving object in the sky, again in the same part of the sky, slow moving, so slow I managed to call my son and he saw it too. Then it faded into nothing but not before what looked like a shooting star cross it path directly ahead of it.
Last year I saw something similar, a bright light slow moving across the sky which just sped up to an amazing speed and shot away and I lost sight of it.
None if these were aircraft nor satelites as I see them regularly.

Just seen it again, 3 flashes in the same bit of sky at 11:30pm. Not on top of each other but all within an inch or two. Very very far away!

I have also seen the very same lights on a few occasions now, first seen one about 2 weeks ago and have been looking at the sky ever since at night every time I grab my phone to video it it disappears although I have a pic.
