Loscoe, Derbyshire-26th January 2013
Location of Sighting: Loscoe, Derbyshire
Date of Sighting: 26th January 2013
Time: 10pm
Witness Name: Dawn
Witness Statement: I was sat on the floor in the living room talking to my boyfriend, facing the window, when outside I saw a massive white flash that lit up the whole sky. It only lasted a split second. It was like it had come from a ball of light, not like lightning. It definitely wasn’t a firework and we went straight outside to see If there was anything out there or an aeroplane or something, but the sky was clear. It was such an intense bright white flash. Did anyone else see it? There may have been more because an hour before this I thought I had seen the same thing but didn’t think anything of it as I only saw it out of the corner of my eye.

Hey I did not see what you are referring to, although it sounds like I had a similar experience a few years ago with friends in a park (around 3:30am). The sky basically exploded with a yellowish tint for a split second, which perfectly lit everything in our sight. It was brighter than daylight and we did not even talk about this experience to each other when it happened, as the expressions on each of our faces was confirmation enough.

My wife and I we’re playing in the snow the night of the 26 of jan 2013, in Wigan, and at around 12:30 am we saw this massive flash, white and in the middle there was some kind of blueish/green light, similar to the light that asteroids emit when burn in the atmosphere. It was truly amazing. Lasted between 3 or 5 seconds, and it came from the west.

PS: at first I thought it was an aurora borealis, because of it’s magnitude! Silly.

I live in the same area as Dawn, the first person to comment on this, and saw this light as well. I just happened to be sitting at my computer and talking to my partner. I was facing the window at the time and he didn’t see anything. I saw this very bright flash, it only lasted a couple of seconds and lit up the whole sky. Really amazed me. Never seen anything like that before.

Me and my friend also saw this. We were in Ripley standing at the back door chatting. it was a big flash of light that lasted seconds. it certainly caught our attention as it lit the whole sky up! we listened out for thunder thinking it was really close lightning but there wasnt any.

Hi, thanks for he comments. I am glad other people have seen this too. I juat wonder what it could have been. There was an article in the ripley and heanor paper today and on their website about this incident.Sharon you were mentioned if you are interested in seeing this. From the researcj i have done it seem it was widespread throughout the whole country andnot just on this one day. Does any one else have any further information, sightings or what it could have been?

Perhaps the clue you need is here,Dawn?
Still, if it’s BUFORA they don’t have any credibility on here for failing to take sightings seriously. A meteorite/meteor? Perish the thought!

There were unusually active thunderstorms on the evening in question, and although these were well to the west of you, it’s not at all unlikely that you saw an intense flash from a distant storm – perhaps as far away as Wales.
