Near East Ord, Berwick upon Tweed-13th June 2012

Location of Sighting: Near East Ord, Berwick upon Tweed
Date of Sighting: 13th June 2012
Time: 11.20pm
Witness Name: Dennis

Witness Statement: It was a clear night, we were about to go to bed. I was going to pull down the kitchen blind when I looked out of my kitchen window toward the west, and saw a bright light high up in the sky, brighter than the stars around it. It was pure bright white like the light from burning magnesium.
At first I thought it was a star, then I noticed that it was moving quite quickly across the sky in a south easterly direction. I called my wife who also saw it, and I phoned a friend who lives about 2 miles away, and he and his partner saw it too.
About 5 minutes after this, what sounded like a propeller driven aircraft flew over quite slowly towards the south, and appeared to be followed seconds after by another white light, this time not as bright as the first, but maybe it was higher in the sky.

  1. Hi Dennis, I would say you saw the Space Station passing over.
It was making a high bright pass at the time of your sighting

  2. Re: Andrew’s comment

Does the International Space Station shine or reflect a light that could be described as “pure bright white like the light from burning magnesium.” ?

  3. Hi T Wood, the station is reflecting the sun which as you know
    is quite bright.

  4. Thanks for your comments on this, I have watched a couple of YouTube videos of the ISS, and maybe that is what it was. I did mention , though, that I saw two lights moving in the sky, and I’m sure that they both couldn’t have been the ISS.
I did get a small amount of video footage from a 8mp digital camera, but it just looks like a black screen on my computer.
