Staindrop, County Durham-1st October 2013

Location of Sighting: Staindrop, County Durham
Date of Sighting:1/10/2013
Time: 9pm
Witness Name: Gemma

Witness Statement:Travelling along the A688 Staindrop from Barnard Castle as a passenger.

Noticed large object – Green with white stripe – travelling towards Barnard Castle VERY fast, no noise was coming from the object – Moments later a Fighter Jet on full afterburner was chasing after it.

Witnessed it with my work colleague and also the car in front of us slowed right down to watch it – we had to avoid the car otherwise we would have hit them.

  1. Hi Gemma,
I have no idea exactly as to what you saw – as an ‘object’ – what exactly did you see as regards to the perceived size of it??
With regard to the fighter jet – have you any idea as to what sort this jet may have been??
This was obviously at night – what lights were this ‘jet’ showing, – both the colours and frequency of strobing??
Your work colleagues may be able to confirm everything!! -Paul

  2. Can you describe the object a bit more? Size, shape, visible lights, etc would be helpful. Would you say it was travelling faster than the fighter jet?

  3. So you saw a green and white-striped noiseless craft chased by a fighter jet with full burners? No-one else witnessed this of course? You do realise you’ve said this was 9 pm when it’s pitch dark, don’t you? Complete and utter rubbish, Gemma. Don’t believe a word of it.

  4. Spot on Gary.

  5. Gary,

I agree, it always strikes a chord when people can discern colour so readily in the dark. The UFO would have to be brightly lit, or very low, for this to be possible.

  6. Nice comments Gary that’s a sure way of getting more info from a person, call them a liar before you know the full facts.

  7. @ Gary,
    Hi mate,
Yes, I agree with your thoughts entirely.
It would be interesting to see if Gemma responds to the request for more information from both myself and Stephen and if she can also explain the facts (as she and her colleague was supposed to have witnessed this) as you describe above! -Paul

  8. Mak, a flying fruit drop chased by a Typhoon and no one else saw it? Think about it.

  9. Sorry Gemma, what you saw was something I bought at Anne Summer’s and my boyfriend got jealous and threw it out of the window. Wow! What a speed that jet was doing and he was so low with his after burner full on. Afraid my boyfriend does not have much of an afterburner!

  10. Did not see any object outside but two, not one, jets flew very fast over our house at about same time in the evening, which is very unusual. (about 10 miles from Staindrop) Checked the low flying timetable for northern England and nothing was scheduled ( we were going to complain as they were very low and very noisy). So cannot verify the UFO but two jets were out on 1st October.

  11. There have been flying exercises from Coningsby and Leuchars involving Typhoons and other aircraft up the North East coast over the last few weeks.

  12. Anon, speak to RAF ATC, I think you will find, as Steve T has said, that aircraft were flying at that time. They were probably Hawks on night flying exercise.

  13. Hawks with afterburners? Typhoon/Tornado/F15 seems more likely, or even F16s or other if a NATO exercise.

  14. Gary and Steve T, I prefer Chloe’s comment above. I think the whole report is a naval term beginning with B and ending in S!

  15. If you were not present at the sighting and didn’t see it Gary your opinion doesn’t count!!!!! End of!!!
