Swadlincote, Derbyshire-26th March 2012

Location of Sighting: Swadlincote, Derbyshire
Date of Sighting: 26.03.12
Time: 22.30
Witness Name: Sally Chamberlain

Witness Statement: Last night I was looking out of our open bedroom window at around 10.30pm at the moon and stars when a very bright orange light shot up across the moon and Venus, made a loop and shot back down again before it promptly vanished. This all happened in a split second. It reminded me of a firefly. I was very surprised and can’t imagine what it could have been. I would have said it was some space junk or a meteor but given the fact it didn’t move in a straight line, it probably wasn’t. I also saw a white/sliver orb at around 4.30pm earlier that day floating behind the roof tops at the back of our house. It was highly reflective and travelled in a straight line for about a minute then gradually began to descend near the telephone mast in the fields down the road just before I lost sight of it. As it flew, it seemed to jerk around a little. As a rough estimate, it was probably the size of a beach ball and flew at around 100-200 feet in the air. I thought it might have been a gull at first but I soon realised it was round or oval in shape and appeared to be able to control its own flight path. Did anyone else see either of these things?
